The Richmond Police Department’s Special
Operations Division-Traffic Crash
Team has made an arrest in a fatal hit and run that occurred on Hull Street
Road last month.
At approximately 2:24 a.m. on February 2, officers responded to the 5200 block
of Hull Street Road for the report of a person down. Once on scene,
they found Jamie Melendez-Cortez deceased in the roadway and determined
he had been struck by a vehicle.
After a thorough investigation and tips
from the community, RPD detectives identified the driver of the striking
vehicle as Jason R. Gonzales, 44, of the 2400 block of Mistwood
Forest Drive, Chester, VA. He has been charged with Felony
Hit and Run and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance. His
booking photo is attached.
