Motorcyclist Identified in Semmes Avenue Fatal Single-Vehicle Collision

Richmond Police detectives have identified the motorcyclist involved in the fatal single-vehicle collision on Semmes Avenue on Monday as Johnson Chen, 23, of California.

At approximately 10:49 p.m., Monday, April 21, officers were called to the intersection of South Ninth Street and Semmes Avenue for the report of a motorist who had veered off the road. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Chen, down and unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

The RPD Crash Team responded and determined Chen was operating the motorcycle southbound on the bridge at South Ninth Street and Semmes Avenue when he veered off the roadway. Initial information provided to investigators indicated the motorcycle was being operated in a reckless manner prior to the crash.

West Broad Street Homicide Investigation

Richmond Police detectives have identified the female who was located on Brander Street yesterday as a juvenile female, 17, of North Chesterfield.

Yesterday at approximately 10:05 p.m., officers were called to Ancarrow’s Landing on Brander Street for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and found the juvenile female down and unresponsive. She had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Detectives have determined the incident is connected to a scene on West Broad Street. On Wednesday at approximately 6:38 a.m., officers were called to a parking deck in the 2000 block of West Broad Street for the report of a suspicious situation. Officers arrived and collected evidence that they have connected to the homicide investigation.

Pedestrian Identified in Fatal Collision on Walmsley Boulevard

 

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team has identified the pedestrian who was struck while crossing Walmsley Boulevard as Enrique Caal Juc, 46, of Richmond.

 

Yesterday at approximately 10:52 p.m., officers were called to the 4700 block of Walmsley Boulevard for the report of vehicle striking a pedestrian. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Caal Juc, down and unresponsive in the roadway. He was transported to a local hospital where this morning he succumbed to his injuries.

 

The RPD Crash Team responded to the scene and determined Caal Juc, not in a crosswalk, was crossing Walmsley Boulevard eastbound when a vehicle being operated northbound struck him. The driver remained on scene.

 

The investigation continues. At this time, charges have not been filed.

Update: Missing Woman, Last Seen on Bridge, Located

 

The Richmond Police Department has received confirmation from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and Chesterfield County Police Department that the remains of a woman recovered from the James River on March 24, 2025, have been positively identified as Mareesa Jones, 59, of Henrico.

 

Jones was previously reported missing after her vehicle was found abandoned on the Lee Bridge on the evening of Saturday, February 8. A witness reported seeing a woman matching Jones’ description standing near the railing shortly before 8:18 p.m.

 

Since that time, the Richmond Police Department, Richmond Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team, and the Metro Aviation Unit have conducted extensive search efforts in and around the James River.

 

Detectives do not suspect foul play. The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is available for release.

Today at approximately 7:28 a.m., officers were called to the 2200 block of Fairfield Avenue for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and located an adult male, down and unresponsive on a sidewalk. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Several vehicles at the location were damaged by gunfire. There were no other injuries.

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying this individual in these photos. This individual is a person of interest in a commercial burglary investigation.

 

Third Precinct detectives are investigating a commercial burglary that occurred at a local business located in the 3400 block of West Cary Street.

 

At approximately 3:15 a.m., Saturday, April 5, an unknown male was captured on a store surveillance camera inside the locked business. The suspect stole cash and then left the area in an unknown direction. Photos attached.
