WHAT:  Richmond Police Salute to Excellence Awards Ceremony

WHEN:  3 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2015

WHERE:  The November Theatre ~ Formerly The Empire Theater
                 114 W. Broad St.

BACKGROUND:  Chief Alfred Durham and the Richmond Police Department will honor Richmond Police personnel and their community partners for their crime reduction efforts, contributions and acts to aid in the “Richmond Resurgence.”

The Department will present its prestigious annual awards in the following categories:
·         Precinct of the Year,
·         Sector of the Year,
·         Rookie of the Year and
·         The Dominic O. Tabb Communications Officer of the Year.

Also, three of the Department’s top awards – the Medal of Valor, Police Medal and the Life Saving Bar – will be presented to officers for their invaluable, courageous and heroic actions in the line of duty.

The Department recognizes the efforts of those who contribute to its successes twice a year with an awards ceremony.

The public and members of the media are invited to attend.

Formal Swearing-In Ceremony for New Police Chief

BACKGROUND: Mayor Dwight C. Jones and the Richmond Police Department invite the public to the formal investiture ceremony for the Department’s 18th chief of police.

Chief Alfred Durham comes to Richmond Police after retiring from the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., with 25 years of experience in law enforcement.

The new chief of police also is a veteran of his country, having served 17 years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Chief Durham is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He earned an associate degree in Corrections Administration from the University of the District of Columbia.                       

Although new to the city’s top law enforcement position, Chief Durham is not new to the City of Richmond or Richmond Police. He previously served as chief of staff under former Chief Rodney D. Monroe for two years.

The public and members of the media are invited to attend the investiture.

Allen Avenue Assault and Robbery Suspects Sought

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspects in the attached photo and video (sent separately) who assaulted and robbed a man earlier this month.

At approximately 3 a.m., Monday, Feb. 2, a male was sitting in his car behind an address in the 400 block of North Allen Avenue when a group of males assaulted him. The suspects knocked on the car window, the victim opened the door and the group kicked and punched him. They then robbed him of cash and items.

The incident was captured on a surveillance camera.

The suspects fled on foot.

Detectives ask anyone with any information about the identity of anyone in the group to call Third Precinct Detective William Cutshall at (804) 646-1068 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000. Burglary Suspect Sought

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the video who burglarized a home on Old Midlothian Turnpike last week.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, the suspect parked his vehicle in front of a residence and entered an unlocked porch and stole items. The suspect also attempted to enter the locked main body of the trailer home but was unsuccessful.

The suspect is described as a white male, balding, approximately 5’10” tall. He wore a light-colored hooded sweatshirt and was smoking a cigarette. He drove a light-colored Subaru wagon.
