Formal Swearing-In Ceremony for New Police Chief

BACKGROUND: Mayor Dwight C. Jones and the Richmond Police Department invite the public to the formal investiture ceremony for the Department’s 18th chief of police.
Chief Alfred Durham comes to Richmond Police after retiring from the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., with 25 years of experience in law enforcement.

The new chief of police also is a veteran of his country, having served 17 years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Chief Durham is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He earned an associate degree in Corrections Administration from the University of the District of Columbia.                       

Although new to the city’s top law enforcement position, Chief Durham is not new to the City of Richmond or Richmond Police. He previously served as chief of staff under former Chief Rodney D. Monroe for two years.

The public and members of the media are invited to attend the investiture.
