The Richmond Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred yesterday in Hillside Court.
At approximately 4:50 p.m., RPD officers were called to the 1700 block of Southlawn Avenue for a report of a shooting. They immediately located the body of Benjamin Alston, 29, of the 2400 block of Harwood Street lying on the sidewalk outside one of the apartment buildings. He had been shot.
Detectives are making good progress in their investigation due to several tips that were provided by residents of Hillside Court. They believe the shooting occurred as the result of an altercation.
