Missing Northside Woman Sought

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing woman, Mary E. Rivers, who has been missing since Feb. 22.

Rivers, 61, was last seen wearing a blue jacket, black blouse and worn or stonewashed-colored blue jeans. She suffers from several health conditions and has not taken her medications.

She is described as a black woman with a dark complexion, 5’5” tall, with brown eyes and curly brown hair, and weighing approximately 155 pounds.

Oliver Crossing Apartment Complex Fatal Shootings – Approximate Time of Death

The Richmond Police Department has determined an approximate time of death in the fatal shootings last week at the Oliver Crossing Apartment Complex.

RPD Detectives believe the shootings occurred approximately 24 hours before the bodies of Shaquenda Walker, Deborah Walker and Walter Gaines, III were found the morning of February 16th and that they occurred in quick succession with Gaines shooting the two females before turning the gun on himself. They used findings from the Medical Examiner, interviews with family members and phone records to establish that estimate.
The two children under the age of five who were found unharmed in the apartment have been placed with family members. At last report, they were doing well considering the circumstances.

At approximately 8:27 a.m., Thursday, February 16, RPD officers were called to the 1300 block of Coalter Street for a report of several persons down. They quickly located three bodies in an apartment there. All three had been shot. They all were pronounced dead at the scene.
RPD detectives are not looking for additional persons at this time in this case. They believe there is no on-going threat to the community.

Daycare Worker Arrested

Richmond Police Department detectives have arrested a daycare worker for pinching children in her care.

Maria Lynn West, 50, of the 300 block of S. Allen Ave., has been charged with two counts of Simple Assault for pinching children at All Saints Apostolic Church in South Richmond. The children are between the ages of three and five years.

The charges were brought February 15, 2017.

Persons of Interest Sought in Blackwell Shooting

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the two persons of interest in the attached photos who may have knowledge related to a shooting in the Blackwell neighborhood early last week.

At approximately 4:35 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 12, police responded to the intersection of East 20th Street and Albany Avenue for a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they found an adult male inside of a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.


The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was later released for his non-life threatening injuries.


The individuals are described as:

  • POI 1: Black male with dark hair and a low cut. He is approximately 30 years old, 5’7”-5’8” in height, 170-180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, black pants and black sneakers.
  • POI 2: Black male with short, dark hair. He is approximately 20-25 years old, 5’5” in height, 150 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue polo shirt with a large logo on his left chest.

Victims Identified in the Oliver Crossing Apartment Complex Fatal Shootings


February 16, 2017
The Richmond Police Department has identified the three persons who were fatally shot this morning in an apartment in the Oliver Crossing Apartment Complex. They are:

·         Shaquenda Walker, 24, of the 1300 block of Coalter St
·         Deborah Walker, 55, of the 1300 block of Coalter St.
·         Walter Gaines, III, 23, of the 600 block of Jackson Ave., Henrico
At approximately 8:27 a.m., RPD officers were called to the 1300 block of Coalter Street for a report of several persons down. They quickly located three bodies in an apartment there. All three had been shot. They all were pronounced dead at the scene
RPD detectives are investigating these shootings as a probable case of murder/suicide. While their investigation is in its early stages, a preliminary analysis of the crime scene indicates the two women were shot by Gaines before he shot himself.
The Medical Examiner will determine the approximate time, cause and manner of their deaths.
Two children of Shaquenda Walker, toddlers under the age of five, were found in the apartment. They have been reunited with family members. Shaquenda Walker was the daughter of Deborah Walker.
RPD detectives are not looking for additional persons at this time in this case. They believe there is no on-going threat to the community.

Suspect Sought in Commercial Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the attached photo who robbed a convenience store last week.

At approximately 6:37 a.m. on Friday, February 10, a store employee reported a male entered the Tiger Mart, located at 200 W. Hill St., brandished a handgun and robbed the business.

The suspect, a black male wearing a dark purple knit cap, black hooded jacket and black trousers, fled the scene on foot towards St. Peter’s Street. There were no injuries.

Victim Identified in Clarkson Road Homicide, Suspect Arrested


February 15, 2017
The Richmond Police Department has identified the person who was fatally stabbed last night as David Jones, 40, of the 1400 block of Clarkson Drive. A suspect has also been arrested.

At approximately 6:33 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, RPD officers were called to the 1400 block of Clarkson Road for a report of a person stabbed. They quickly located the victim, David Jones, lying in a breezeway of an apartment building.
Jones was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:36 p.m.

Acting on information several witnesses provided to RPD officers, Major Crimes detectives were able to determine Jones was stabbed during a fight with another man, Devell L. Carson, 36, of the 2400 block of Whitcomb Street. Carson has been arrested and charged with Voluntary Manslaughter.

Victim Identified, Arrest Made in Raven Street Homicide


February 14, 2017
The Richmond Police Department has identified Donyell T. Patillo, 24, of the 4000 block of Laurelwood Road, North Chesterfield, as the victim of yesterday’s homicide in Mosby Court.

At approximately 12:08 p.m., police received a call for random gunfire in the area of the 1900 block of Raven Street. Officers responded and after surveying the area, marked the scene clear.
Twenty minutes later, police received a second call for random gunfire and a person shot in the same block. An officer, who was in the area, found Patillo suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. At 12:37 p.m. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
Keon L. McDonald, 32, of the 600 block of Westover Woods Circle, was taken into custody yesterday. He has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Additional charges are expected.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit are investigating the incident as a homicide and continue to gather additional information.

Arrest Made in Foxwood Apartments Homicide

An arrest has been made shooting death last month Joseph Boyle, 31, of the 4900 block of Jacobs Glenn Drive, Chesterfield.

Stephen D. Green, 23, of the 1700 block of W. Moore Street was arrested February 1 by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force with the assistance of the Chesterfield County Police Department. Green has been charged with First Degree Murder, the Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle.

At approximately 9:04 p.m., Sunday, January 29, RPD officers responded to a report of shots fired in the Foxwood Apartments complex, followed by a vehicle crash on Snead Road. Officers located an SUV approximately 100 yards east of the entrance to the complex, in the 5000 block of Snead Road. It had left the roadway and struck a tree. Boyle was in the driver’s seat. He had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arrest Made in Barton Avenue Homicide

An arrest has been made in the shooting death last month of Charles J. Lewis, III, 53, of the 2800 block of Matterhorn Drive, Henrico.

Antoine R. Cooper, 21, of the 1600 block of Rosecrest Avenue was arrested February 6 by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force. Cooper has been charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder.
At approximately 7:03 a.m. on January 23, RPD officers and other emergency personnel were called to assist an adult, black male with what was believed to be a medical emergency. He was sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle stopped in an alley behind the 2400 block of Barton Avenue. While attempting to resuscitate Lewis, it was discovered he had been shot. A short time later, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspects Sought in Convenience Store Robbery


February 10, 2017

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspects in the photo who are suspected of robbery at a convenience store near West Broad Street and Malvern Avenue.

Shortly after 7 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, police received a call reporting a robbery in-progress at the Quick N Easy Mart located at 4105 W. Broad St. When officers arrived, they were told two unknown men entered the store wearing hooded sweatshirts. One of the suspects pulled a gun from his waistband and said to the store clerk, “Give me the cash.”

The clerk then handed one the suspects money from the register. The suspects then fled the scene running down an alley toward Antrim Avenue.


  • Suspect 1: A black male in his late-teens to early-20s with a dark beard. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a zipper and a white crewneck T-shirt underneath, black knit cap, and blue jeans.

Missing Brookland Park Woman Sought

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a Brookland Park woman, Melanie A. Davis, who has been missing since May 28, 2016. Her photo is attached.

Davis, 55, was last seen in the 3000 block of Woodrow Avenue. She is described as a black female with a medium complexion and brown hair. She is 5’9” in height, and weighs approximately 170 pounds. She has a tattoo of vines on her lower back and several burn marks on her neck and shoulders.
“Ms. Davis has been away from her loved ones for nearly nine months,” Det. William Thompson said. “It’s possible she may be in another jurisdiction, even another state. We hope the public may provide any tips or information that may assist us with reuniting Ms. Davis with her family.”

RPD to Promote Nine Officers

The Richmond Police Department is pleased to announce the promotions of nine officers to the ranks lieutenant and sergeant at 10 a.m. tomorrow, February 10 at the Richmond Police Training Academy, 1202 W. Graham Road.

Mayor Levar M. Stoney will join Chief Alfred Durham for the promotion of two new lieutenants and seven sergeants. These officers, four women and five men, have nearly 100 years of combined experience with the Richmond Police Department.

Suspect Sought in Home Invasion

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the male in the attached photo who is the suspect in a home invasion and robbery yesterday.

At approximately 11:49 a.m., officers were called to the 1800 block of Newman Road for the report of a home invasion and robbery.

The suspect, seen below in a surveillance image captured nearby, is described as a black male, 5’5” – 5’7” tall, with a slight build. He wore a “Nike” brand navy-colored hooded sweatshirt with white lettering on the front.

The victim reported the suspect appeared at the home’s front door offering lawn services, but when declined, the suspect brandished a handgun, forced his way into the home, stole cash and fled on foot.

Victim Identified in Lynhaven Avenue Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of a homicide that occurred yesterday morning as Jakeem P. Johnson, 26, of the 2300 block of Wright Avenue.

Shortly before 4 a.m., officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 3000 block of Lynhaven Avenue and found a male in the rear yard of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Johnson was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A small, white vehicle was observed leaving the scene towards Harwood Avenue.

Suspect Sought in Church Burglary

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the individual in the photos who is suspected of breaking and entering into a church in the East End.

Shortly before 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, an adult male entered Faith Holy Church at 1022 N 22nd Street through a back door and stole several items. Surveillance footage shows the suspect entering the building and before leaving, rummaging through a mailbox within the facility.

The suspect is described as a black male with a medium complexion, short dark hair and beard. At the time, he was wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt underneath a mid-tone jacket with a zipper on the left arm and light-colored cuffs, light-colored pants, and dark shoes. A tattoo was also visible on his right hand.

Suspect Sought in Martin’s Larceny

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the individual in the photos who is suspected of larceny at a West End grocery store.

Surveillance video shows that around noon on Thursday, Jan. 12, several money orders were taken at the Martin’s grocery store located at 7035 Three Chopt Rd. The suspect engaged in conversation with the victim at the customer service counter and when the victim briefly left the counter, footage shows the suspect taking the money orders and placing them in her purse. She left the scene prior to the victim’s return and was last seen driving away in a dark minivan.

The suspect is described as a black woman with a thin build and dark, medium length hair. At the time she was wearing a red, block-colored hooded jacket, a light-colored shirt, dark-colored pants, dark-colored flat shoes with white socks, a brown tote with light straps, and a wedding ring.

Community Walk in Byrd Park Neighborhood

BACKGROUND:     Command Staff and other Richmond Police Department officers will walk at 5 p.m. today through the Byrd Park neighborhood. During the walk, officers will speak with community members about safety concerns they may have and what they would like to see from the Richmond Police Department.

said that the area has seen an increase in thefts from motor vehicles, larcenies and at the end of 2016, an increase in reported random gunfire.


This is a very diverse area with older residents, new families and college students.” Lt. Woo said. “At the end of the year, we saw an increase in reports of random gunfire, however an arrest was made and the gunfire has subsided. I want to make sure we keep an open dialogue and reassure residents of our commitment in keeping this historic neighborhood safe.”

This event is the latest in a series of walks conducted by the Richmond Police Department in neighborhoods throughout the city.

Suspect Sought in Family Dollar Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the attached photos who is suspected of a robbery which occurred late this morning.

The robbery occurred at approximately 10:51 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, at the Family Dollar at 1208 Westover Hills Blvd. The suspect entered the store demanding money while exposing a firearm to an employee.

The suspect is described as a black male with a full goatee. At the time, he was wearing a black cap with a brim, dark metallic sunglasses, a black coat, and a printed gray T-shirt.

Suspect Sought in Home Invasion

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to locate the suspect in the attached photo who is suspected of a home invasion last November.

Andrew ‘Drew’ Ferguson, 47, of the 5500 block of Zion Ridge Terrace in Chesterfield, is a suspect in a robbery and home invasion that occurred on Monday, November 7, 2016, in the 5100 block of Orcutt Lane.

Ferguson is approximately 5’ 6” tall and weighs 185 pounds. He is known to frequent the Jennie Scher neighborhood in the Government Road area in Richmond.

West Cary Street Attempted Burglary


February 2, 2017
At approximately 11:33 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, police responded to the 2600 block of West Cary Street to take a report of an attempted burglary.

Surveillance footage shows around 6 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 2, the suspect forced entry through a rear door. Once he gains entry, he walks into the business’ office and begins to search several file cabinets. He also checked several lockers prior to leaving empty-handed.
The suspect is described as a black male with a light complexion, dark hair and a full beard. He is approximately 35 to 44 years old, around 5’6” in height with a stocky build. At the time he was wearing a dark knit cap, black shirt, black pants, black shoes and black leather gloves.
