WHAT: Richmond Police Department Community Walk
WHEN:
5 p.m. Today, Feb. 7, 2017
WHERE:
Byrd Park Roundhouse, 700 S Davis Ave.
BACKGROUND:
Command Staff
and other Richmond Police Department officers will walk at 5 p.m. today
through the Byrd Park neighborhood. During the walk, officers will speak
with community members about safety concerns they may have and what they would
like to see from the Richmond Police Department.
Sector 313 Lt. Bill Woo said that the area has seen an increase in thefts from motor vehicles, larcenies and at the end of 2016, an increase in reported random gunfire.
“This is a very
diverse area with older residents, new families and college students.” Lt.
Woo said. “At the end of the year, we saw an increase in reports of random
gunfire, however an arrest was made and the gunfire has subsided. I want to
make sure we keep an open dialogue and reassure residents of our commitment in
keeping this historic neighborhood safe.”
This event is the latest in a series of walks conducted by the Richmond Police Department in neighborhoods throughout the city.
Members of the media are encouraged to attend.
