Pedestrian Identified in Chamberlayne Avenue Fatality

The Richmond Police Department has identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed last night on Chamberlayne Avenue as Donald C. Cordell, 55, of the 3000 block of Chamberlayne Avenue.

At approximately 10:25 p.m., a vehicle was travelling south in the 3000 block of Chamberlayne Avenue when Cordell ran across the roadway. The vehicle, in the right travel lane, struck Cordell. The vehicle came to an immediate stop but was then struck by a vehicle from the rear in the same lane.

Both drivers remained on scene.

Cordell was transported to a local hospital where, this morning, he succumbed to his injuries.

The RPD Crash Team responded to the scene where they took measurements and interviewed the drivers. No charges are expected at this time.
