Identification Made in Officer-Involved Shooting on Cedar Street, Detectives Seek Evidence from Public

Richmond Police detectives have identified the individual in the fatal officer-involved shooting yesterday as Kenneth Sharp, 20, of Richmond.

Yesterday at approximately 4:58 a.m., officers were called to the 1900 block of Cedar Street for the report of a disturbance with an armed person. Officers arrived on the scene within minutes and located the male suspect, Sharp. After a brief encounter during which Sharp produced a firearm, Sharp was shot. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A firearm was recovered at the scene.

Following fatal officer-involved shootings, the Richmond Police Department produces a Critical Incident Briefing video that will be released to the public. These videos feature video and audio from the investigation, to include officer body-worn camera video(s) and 911 recordings.

“Chief Rick Edwards knows that transparency is crucial to maintaining trust with the public,” said Deputy Chief Sybil El-Amin. “He has pledged to release these Critical Incident Briefing videos, when possible, within two weeks of the incident.”
