Four Juveniles Arrested for Multiple Vehicles Damaged in First Precinct
Officers with Richmond Police Department’s First
Precinct arrested four juveniles early Sunday morning after being called to the
scene of vehicle vandalisms and thefts from motor vehicles.
On Sunday at approximately 1:34 a.m., a member of the
public called police when observing several juveniles who were damaging multiple
vehicles in the 1500 block of North 31st Street. This scenario
matched two other incidents featured in an RPD advisory on Friday, which
alerted the public to multiple vehicles damaged and thefts from motor vehicles
in eastern Richmond.
Following the call for service, First Precinct patrol
officers rapidly responded and located the juveniles. Officers engaged in short
foot pursuits and apprehended all four suspects. Detectives believe
there may be a connection between these suspects and the earlier incidents and
are actively investigating.
Among items seized from the suspects were two window
punches – handheld devices used to shatter vehicle windows. Detectives are in
consultation with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney regarding charges
for the four juvenile males, ages 15, 16, 17 and 17, of Richmond.
“I not only applaud First Precinct patrol for their
rapid and effective response – but I thank the public for reporting these
incidents and the media for sharing this information,” said RPD Chief Rick
Edwards. “When we all take responsibility for public safety – it leads to a
safer Richmond for all.”
