Fatal Vehicle Accident
A single vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Mosby and O streets this morning, resulting in two fatalities.
At approximately 1:23 a.m., a vehicle was attempting to make a left turn off of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge onto Mosby Street when the vehicle collided with a light pole at the corner of Mosby and O streets. The light pole fell to the pavement as the vehicle struck a tree, continued several more feet down O Street and came to rest against another tree.
Both passengers were ejected. One male died at the scene. The other male passenger was transported to VCU Medical Center where he died of his injuries.
The Richmond Police Department is investigating the crash and attempting to identify the victims.
The 900 block of Mosby Street is closed just north of the viaduct and the 1800 block of O Street is also closed to traffic to accommodate the investigation. The bridge is open in both directions, although motorists cannot turn left onto the closed Mosby Street at this time.
