At approximately 7 p.m. last evening, the Richmond Police Department was asked to check on the welfare of an individual in the 3200 block of Hanover Avenue.
Officers responding to the address attempted to speak to the male, the sole occupant of the dwelling, who refused to emerge or make contact.
Fearing for the man’s well-being, the Department’s negotiators and SWAT team were called to assist.
For several hours, negotiators attempted to make contact without success.
At approximately 2 a.m., officers entered the structure and found the male dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
Several streets were closed during the incident for the safety of residents and motorists and to accommodate the equipment and responders. They were opened at 2:30 a.m.
The investigating is ongoing and no foul play is suspected. The male will be identified when the information is available for release.
