Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Update

WHAT:                   RPD Chief Alfred Durham and Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael          Herring will provide an update on an officer-involved shooting investigation

WHEN:                   11 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2015

WHERE:                 John Marshall Courts Building

BACKGROUND:     The Richmond Police Department and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office have been investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred April 1, 2015 in a motel parking lot on Midlothian Turnpike.

Roderick Hardy, 29, of the 15000 block of Cox Road, Church Road, VA was shot by an RPD officer after Hardy displayed a handgun and pointed it at RPD Officers.

Hardy was treated at a local hospital and discharged several weeks later.

Hardy is currently being held in the Richmond Justice Center awaiting trial. He is charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Brandishing a Firearm.

The Force Investigation Team (FIT) from the Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility investigated the incident and produced a report it submitted to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. The report includes witness statements, video of the incident, and forensic evidence collected at the scene.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Herring will announce the results of his office’s investigation.

Chief Alfred Durham will provide new information about the incident and the subsequent investigation.
