Virginia State Police, Virginia Commonwealth University Police, and Powhatan

WHEN: Friday, July 27 to Saturday, July 28 from 8 p.m. – 2 a.m.
WHERE: Various Locations around the region.
BACKGROUND:
The Richmond Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across the
region to participate in DUI checkpoints that will occur in multiple areas tonight
and through the morning hours. This is the first time a region-wide effort has
been conducted on the same evening.
There
will also be mobile patrols in areas looking for impaired drivers.
This
is part of an ongoing effort to educate the public and stop drunk driving.
“This is one of many operations the Richmond Police Department conducts as part of our Vision Zero campaign,” said Sgt. Jonathan Nathanson.

Vision
Zero is a campaign focusing on eliminating traffic fatalities and severe
injuries.
So far this year, over 200 drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence in the city of Richmond.
