Suspects Sought in Home Invasion and Armed Robbery

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating the suspects connected to a home invasion and armed robbery that occurred in the Carver neighborhood yesterday afternoon.
 At approximately 5:38 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, officers responded to the 700 block of West Marshall Street for the report of a home invasion and armed robbery.  The suspects entered the home and demanded money from the victim at gunpoint.  The suspects fled with cash and an iPhone X.

Traffic Advisory for Virginia March for Life

Thousands of people are expected to march near the State Capitol next week for the Virginia March for Life.

Several roads will be temporarily closed on Wednesday, April 3.

Broad Street between 8th and Governor Streets will be closed from 11:50 a.m. to 1 p.m. The 800 block of East Franklin Street, Grace Street, and 9th Street will also be closed in both directions from 11:50 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be no parking in the 800 block of East Grace and East Franklin Streets in both directions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 “In the interest of public safety, we ask members of the community to please pre-plan accordingly and avoid this area if possible, “said Captain Donald Davenport, Commander of the Richmond Police Department’s Special Operations Division

One Arrest in Weekend Disturbance at Huguenot High School.

A disturbance following a dance competition this weekend at Huguenot High School resulted in one arrest.

Falan Brown, 36, of the 1000 block of E. Lexington Avenue, High Point, N.C.,
was arrested for brandishing a handgun at the school. She was charged with:
·         Simple assault
·         Brandishing a firearm
·         Carrying a firearm on school grounds.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Saturday, March 23, RPD officers were called to the school for a report of a person brandishing a weapon. When they arrived, they encountered a fight occurring among participants in a dance competition. Officers were able to end the disturbance.

As a precaution, officers conducted a search of the school and found no additional threats.

Several people received minor injuries as a result of the commotion. They were treated at the scene. One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Suspect Sought in Commercial Robbery on Jefferson Davis Highway

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect in a commercial robbery that occurred this past weekend on Jefferson Davis Highway.

At approximately 4:02 a.m. on Sunday, March 24, the male suspect entered a 7-Eleven store located in the 4700 block of Jefferson Davis Highway.  Shortly after walking inside, the male suspect demanded money from the clerk.  No weapon was displayed, but he acted as if he had one. 

The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash and a bag of pork rinds, then fled on foot toward Walmsley Boulevard.  He was last seen wearing a two-tone black jacket with a gray skull cap.

Suspect Sought in Theft from Motor Vehicle at Downtown Parking Deck

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the male suspect in the attached photos who stole from a motor vehicle at a parking deck in the downtown area.

Sometime between 10:58 p.m. and 11:44 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, the suspect broke into a motor vehicle parked inside the deck located at 509 E. Franklin Street.  The suspect stole money and jewelry.

At the time of the crime, the suspect was wearing a green hoodie, dark jacket, and blue jeans.  He was carrying a small backpack and riding a black bicycle with fenders and white handgrips.

Detectives want to remind citizens that taking a few small precautions can help secure a vehicle and prevent crimes of opportunity such as motor vehicle theft or theft from motor vehicles:
  • ·         Lock car doors.  Regardless of where it’s parked, lock up and keep valuables out of sight.
  • ·         Never leave keys inside the car. It makes the vehicle an easy target.
  • ·         Don’t leave a running vehicle unattended, even for a few minutes.

Suspect Sought in Fan District Graffiti Vandalism

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the attached photo who is suspected of vandalizing a commercial property in the Fan District.

At approximately 12:59 a.m. on Tuesday, February 26, surveillance video shows an unknown male spray painting a commercial building in the 0 block of North Mulberry Street.

Police ask residents to:
·         Call 9-1-1 if you see any suspect in the process of vandalizing property;

Arrest Made in Lamberts Avenue Shooting

The Richmond Police Department, with the assistance of several law enforcement partners, have made an arrest in connection with a shooting on Lamberts Avenue earlier this week.

Theron D. Shackleford, 32, of the 2900 block of Monet Court, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in North Carolina last night. He was charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.  His mugshot will not be available until he is extradited from North Carolina.

At approximately 10:39 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, Richmond Police officers responded to the 2700 block of Lamberts Avenue for a shooting. Once on scene, they found an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  He was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Richmond Police made this arrest with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, U.S. Marshals Eastern District of North Carolina Violent Fugitive Task Force, Cary Police Department Emergency Response Team, and Wake County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team.
“Thanks to the relentless pursuit by the U.S. Marshals Service and the assisting jurisdictions, this violent individual was captured within approximately 24 hours,” said Major Crimes Lt. Richard Edwards.

Suspect Sought in Stabbing on Government Road

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the male in the photo who is a suspect in a stabbing incident on Government Road last week.

At approximately 8:23 a.m. on Friday, March 15, officers responded to the 1200 block of Admiral Gravely Boulevard for a report of a stabbing. Officers arrived and found an adult male victim suffering from a stab wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with an injury that was not considered life threatening. Detectives responded to the scene and determined that the actual crime scene was located in a parking lot of a business in the 4000 block of Government Road.

A photo of the suspect’s vehicle that left the scene, a dark-colored sedan, is also attached.

Traffic Advisory: St. Patrick’s Day Weekend Events

Traffic will be affected as thousands of people are expected to attend Shamrock the Block and the St. Patrick’s Day Street Party this weekend.

Shamrock the Block (The Boulevard):
NO PARKING zones will be designated from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 for the following road closures:

  • North Boulevard between West Moore Street and West Broad Street
  • West Leigh Street and West Clay Street between North Boulevard and Altamont Avenue
  • West Marshall Street between North Boulevard and North Sheppard Street and all adjoining alleyways
  • Myers Street between West Broad and West Leigh Streets
  • West Moore Street between North Sheppard Street and North Boulevard

Motorists should expect traffic delays in this area (See map below).

Siné Irish Pub’s St. Patrick’s Day Street Festival (Shockoe Bottom):
NO PARKING zones will be designated beginning Friday, March 15 at 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 17 in the 100 block of Virginia Street between East Cary and East Canal Streets. Motorists should expect traffic delays along East Main, East Cary and East Canal, and South 14th Streets.

Richmond Police will be in both areas to ensure the safety of all in attendance of the events.

Victim Identified in Halifax Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of last night’s homicide in Richmond’s Oak Grove neighborhood as
Husain El-Amin, 59, of the 5600 block of Iron Horse Road, Chesterfield, VA.

At approximately 9:38 p.m., Tuesday, March 12th, RPD officers were called to the 2300 block of Halifax Avenue for a report of a person shot. They located El-Amin lying on the sidewalk. He had been shot multiple times.

Husain was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced shortly before 10:00 p.m.

“We believe that Husain was shot by a single individual, a man riding a small-frame bicycle,” said Major Crimes Captain James Laino. “We have already spoken to several people in the neighborhood. We believe there were additional people who were in the immediate area at the time of the shooting. What they might tell us could be tremendously helpful to the detectives.”

Victims Identified in E. Richmond Road Double Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victims of Monday’s double homicide on E. Richmond Road as Kenroy A. Cummings, 37, of the 3500 block of E. Richmond Road, and Marvin D. Walters, 36, of no local address.

At approximately 6:25 p.m. on March 4, officers responded to the 3500 block of E. Richmond Road for the report of a person down.  They found the two men dead inside an apartment.  Both had apparent gunshot wounds.

The investigation is ongoing.

Community Walk in the Belt Atlantic Apartments

WHERE:                     The Belt Atlantic Apartments (formerly Midlothian Village Apartments) 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike

BACKGROUND:         Interim Chief William Smith, Command Staff and other Richmond Police Department officers will walk at 5:30 p.m. today through The Belt Atlantic Apartments neighborhood. During the walk, officers will speak with community members about safety concerns they may have and what they would like to see from the Richmond Police Department.

                                    Sector 211 Lt. Lewis Mills is the newly assigned lieutenant for the area and is looking forward to getting to know those who live in the community.

                                    “We want to let residents know they can come to us with any concerns or issues they might have,” said Lt. Mills. “We also will be providing crime prevention tips, especially when it comes to theft from motor vehicles and motor vehicle thefts.”

This event is the latest in a series of walks conducted by the Richmond Police Department in neighborhoods throughout the city.

Detectives Seek to Identify Person near Recent Crime Scene

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the man in the attached photos who was seen minutes before a homicide that occurred on Fairmount Avenue last month.

Just before 11:30 p.m., this man was seen walking into a convenience store in the 1200 block of Mosby Street the night of the homicide. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt with the words “Born Fly” on the front.

At approximately 11:37 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, officers received a call for a person shot in the 1200 block of North 19th Street. When police arrived, they located an adult male suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Shortly after, officers located Curtison J. Murray, 29, of the 2500 block of Noel Street in an alley in the 1900 block of Fairmount Avenue. Murray was pronounced at the scene

Driver Identified in Fatal Wreck


March 2, 2019

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team has identified the driver who died after wrecking a stolen car last night as
Keith D. Haines, 39, of the 1800 block of Sussex Street.

At approximately 9:29 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle being driven southbound on 14th Street near the Mayo Bridge and identified the vehicle as having been reported stolen. The officer activated emergency equipment and attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle sped away onto the bridge.

Haines, the driver and sole occupant, lost control of the vehicle at the south end of the bridge. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a traffic light pole.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
