The Richmond Police Department Crash Team has identified the driver who died after wrecking a stolen car last night as Keith D. Haines, 39, of the 1800 block of Sussex Street.
At approximately
9:29 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle being driven southbound on 14th
Street near the Mayo Bridge and identified the vehicle as having been reported
stolen. The officer activated emergency equipment and attempted a traffic stop
but the vehicle sped away onto the bridge.
Haines, the driver
and sole occupant, lost control of the vehicle at the south end of the bridge.
The vehicle left the roadway and struck a traffic light pole.
He was pronounced
dead at the scene.
