Suspect Sought in Carytown Commercial Robbery

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the male in the photos who is a suspect in a commercial robbery earlier this week.

At approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, officers responded to the 3600 block of West Cary Street for the report of a robbery. A convenience store employee reported the male in the photos approached the counter, pushed her in the face and stole several items before running out of the store. There were no injuries.

RPD & Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia Grant Boy’s SWAT Wish

WHAT:                       RPD & Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia are working together to grant a 9-year-old boy’s wish to be a member of the SWAT team for a day.

WHEN:                      9:00 – 11:15 a.m., Sunday, April 28

WHERE:                    RPD Training Academy – 1202 W Graham Road
                                    RPD K-9 Training Facility – 814 Forest Lawn Drive

BACKGROUND:     The Richmond Police Department is working with Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia to make a young boy’s wish come true.

Matthew Martinez is the recipient.  The 9-year-old from Troy, Virginia is diagnosed with
cystic fibrosis and his wish is to be part of a SWAT team for a day. 

“I watch SWAT members on Lego videos and they are so neat,” he said.  “I want to wear all
the SWAT gear and I want them to teach me how to be like them.  I want to be part of the
SWAT team for the day to get the bad guys.”

Members of RPD & Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia have planned a day full of activities for
Matthew.  Only two sections will be open to the media 

9:00 – 9:30 a.m. Swearing-In Ceremony at RPD Training Academy
11:00 – 11:15 a.m. – K-9 demonstrations at RPD K-9 Training Facility

Matthew’s parents, a RPD representative, and a Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia representative will be available for interviews after the Swearing-In Ceremony.  Matthew will not be available for interviews because we want him to focus on his wish.

Victim Identified in Meridian Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in last week’s homicide near Jefferson Davis Highway as
Samuel Flaugher, 19, of the 4200 block of Creek Way, Chester.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Monday, April 15, officers were called to the 4000 block of Meridian Avenue for the report of a person shot. Officers responded and found Flaugher suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were considered life threatening. He succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, April 18.

Third Annual Richmond Missing Persons Day Rally

WHERE:                  Chimborazo Park, 3215 East Broad Street
BACKGROUND:     For the third year in a row, The Richmond Police Department is partnering with Toni Jacobs, mother of Keeshae Jacobs, to hold the third annual Richmond Missing Persons Day Rally.

This event is in response to former Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s proclamation designating April 29
Virginia Missing Persons Day establishing the Commonwealth’s commitment to “ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens.”

“It breaks my heart knowing so many children and adults are missing in our area,” said Toni Jacobs. “I don’t wish this kind of heartache on anyone. This event shows our support to those families and let them know they have not been forgotten.”

Jacobs’ daughter, Keeshae, was last seen on Sept. 26, 2016.

Richmond Police officers will also at the event and providing educational materials and information to help keep loved ones safe.

The general public is invited to participate and honor those who are missing. Several speakers are scheduled to appear. There will be food, music, and activities.

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing woman, who last had contact with her family in March.

Sallie K. Coleman, 71, of the 3700 block of McGuire Drive, was taken to a local hospital by ambulance earlier this month, but she is no longer a patient at the facility. 

Coleman suffers from several health conditions and possibly has dementia. 

She is approximately 5’ 6” tall and weighs approximately 160 pounds.

Suspect Sought in North 33rd Street Assault and Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the photo who is suspected of a robbery that occurred earlier this week on North 33
rd Street.

At approximately 1:07 a.m. on Monday, April 22, a victim reported that he was struck in the head and robbed by an unknown male in the 300 block of North 33rd Street. The suspect stole the victim’s wallet and cell phone and fled the scene.

Surveillance footage shows the suspect covering his face before approaching the victim.

Victim Identified in Bancroft Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of Monday’s homicide on Bancroft Avenue as
Alexander N. Wynn, 60, of the 600 block of Bancroft Avenue.

At approximately 9:27 p.m., on Monday, April 22, officers were called to the 600 block of Bancroft Avenue for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and located Wynn, who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound, down and unresponsive in a house. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Manslaughter Charge in Fatal Shooting

The Grand Jury in Richmond has handed down a charge of voluntary manslaughter against Jeremy Z. Simmons, 31, of the 600 block S. Allen Avenue for a fatal shooting that occurred during a commercial robbery in the city last February.

At approximately 7:43 a.m., Saturday, February 2nd, RPD officers were called to investigate a report of a person down on the rear porch of a residence in the 2000 block of West Cary
Street.
Officers located the body of Joseph A. Harris, III, 43, of the 300 block of East Jerald Street, Henrico. He had been shot.

During their investigation, RPD detectives determined that several hours earlier, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Harris had robbed a convenience store in the 2100 block of West Main Street where Simmons was working as a clerk. During the robbery, Simmons fired several shots at Harris inside the store from his personal handgun. Simmons pursued Harris outside the store and fired several more shots as Harris fled the area.

The detectives presented their evidence to the Grand Jury earlier this month, which returned the following felony charges against Simmons:
·         Voluntary Manslaughter
·         Discharging a Firearm in a Public Place

Vehicle Sought in Fatal Hit and Run Investigation

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a blue SUV that is believed to be involved in a fatal hit and run crash that happened early Saturday morning on Fairmount Avenue.

At approximately 2:33 a.m., on Saturday, April 20, officers responded to the 2200 block of Fairmount Avenue for the report of a person down. When police arrived, they located Yvonne D. Charity, 43, of the 2200 block of Fairmount Avenue in the middle of the roadway. She had been struck by a vehicle.

Charity was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

Suspect Sought in Theft from Motor Vehicle

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the man in the attached photos who is believed to be a suspect in a theft from a motor vehicle on Virginia Street last week.

Sometime between the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 17, a victim reported that an unknown male stole several items from his unlocked truck parked in the 300 block of Virginia Street. The victim told police that over $1,000 worth of tools were stolen.

Missing Richmond Man Sought

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing man who was last seen on yesterday, April 16.

Orin B. Teasley, 49, of the 2200 block of W Grace Street, was reported missing from Clara’s Adult Home West.  He is in need of medication for multiple health conditions. 

Teasley was last seen wearing an orange jacket, a brown or black shirt and sweatpants.  He is approximately 5’ 9” tall and weighs approximately 180 pounds.

Quick Arrest Made in Fan Armed Robbery

Richmond Police Third Precinct officers have made a swift arrest in an armed robbery that occurred Monday night in the Fan neighborhood.

At approximately 9:54 p.m. on Monday, April 15, a victim stated he was on West Cary Street (East of the Boulevard) when a man approached him and robbed him at gunpoint. Minutes later, officers arrived on scene and spotted the suspect.

The suspect attempted to run away from the scene, but officers were able to apprehend him.

The suspect, Dante E. Burgos, 23, of the 7300 block of Foxal Rd, Mechanicsville was taken into custody and charged with robbery, possession of a firearm during a commission of felony, and possession of a firearm by a felon. His booking photo is attached.

The incident was captured on a Ring surveillance video which assisted officers in the initial investigation.

Victims Identified in Hillside Court Double Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victims of yesterday’s double homicide in the Hillside Court neighborhood as
Tijuan D. Davis, 20, of the 1300 block of Enfield Avenue and Eric D. Wheless, 21, of the 5600 block of Barnwood Turn in Chesterfield. 

At approximately 12:51 p.m. on Monday, April 15, officers were called to the 1800 block of Southlawn Avenue for the report of random gunfire. When police arrived, they located the victims inside a vehicle.  Both had apparent gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

A third victim was shot and taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Arrest Made in Coalter Street Shooting

Richmond Police Department detectives have made an arrest in connection with a shooting on Coalter Street last week.

Rondario C. Walker, 29, of the 1300 block of Coalter Street, was arrested this morning without incident. He has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His photo is attached.

At approximately 4:05 p.m. on Friday, April 12, officers were called to the 1300 block of Coalter Street for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found a juvenile male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital with an injury that was not considered life threatening.

RPD Lip Sync Challenge Video in Running for Spot on TV Special

The Richmond Police Department needs the community’s help to win a spot on “Lip Sync to the Rescue” – a
new one-hour special, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, to be broadcast later this year on CBS.

The RPD Lip Sync Challenge Video, shot last summer to the song “Brave” by Sara Bareilles, is one of 30 videos selected from across the country.

The first round of voting is underway and runs until September 1.  Anyone can vote for RPD by visiting this website - https://www.cbs.com/shows/lip-sync-to-the-rescue/vote/ - and clicking “Vote Now” under the “Richmond, VA Police Department” video.  You can vote as often as you'd like.

Victim Identified in Coalter Street Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of Saturday’s homicide on Coalter Street as
Malik D. Banks, 21, of the 1300 block of Coalter Street.

At approximately 12:59 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, officers were called to the 1300 block of Coalter Street for the report of random gunfire. When police arrived they located Banks in the staircase of an apartment building. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Suspect Sought in Commercial Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the attached photo who is wanted in connection to a commercial robbery that happened at a 7-Eleven this morning.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. today, an unknown male entered the 7-Eleven in the 4700 block of Jefferson Davis Highway and stole items. The suspect implied he had a firearm, but never displayed a weapon. He then fled the business on foot.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Monument Avenue 10K Traffic Advisory

Correction: The only road closure and “No Parking” zone that will be in effect tomorrow, April 11 is North Laurel Street between W. Franklin Street and Cathedral Place. Additional road closures will go into effect early Friday morning

Thousands of participants will take to the city streets on Saturday morning for the much anticipated Monument Avenue 10K. There will be numerous road closures and “No Parking” zones will be in effect beginning as early as tomorrow, April 11.

Events begin at 8 a.m. with the Virginia 529 Kids Run followed by the start of the Monument Avenue 10K at 8:30 a.m. Street closures and “No Parking” zones go into effect on some streets, such as West Franklin Street at 6 a.m. and West Broad Street at 3 p.m. tomorrow. Cars parked along the race course will be towed. A complete list of times and dates are attached.

During the event, Monument Avenue will be closed between Stuart Circle and Staples Mill Road. Portions of other main streets will also be closed, including West Broad Street, West Grace Street, West Franklin Street and Lombardy Street. (See maps below.)

Suspect Sought in Fan Commercial Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the attached photos who is suspected of a robbery that occurred at a convenience store in The Fan neighborhood last week.

At approximately 1:40 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, an unknown male entered a business in the 2200 block of West Main Street. The suspect approached the counter and demanded money and cigarettes. The suspect fled the scene and was last seen walking north on Shields Avenue.

The suspect was last seen wearing a “New York” pom-pom knit hat, a burgundy jacket, and Timberland boots.

Additional Suspect Sought in Disturbance at Huguenot High School

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying an additional suspect in the attached photos who was involved in a disturbance at a dance competition last month at Huguenot High School. One arrest has already been made.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Saturday, March 23, RPD officers were called to the school for a report of a person brandishing a weapon. When they arrived, they encountered a fight occurring among participants in a dance competition. Officers were able to end the disturbance.

As a precaution, officers conducted a search of the school and found no additional threats.

Several people received minor injuries as a result of the commotion. They were treated at the scene. One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as an adult female who was seen wearing a camouflage jacket with fur. She is captured on video with a firearm.

Community Walk in the Six Points Neighborhood

WHERE:                 1221 E. Brookland Park Boulevard – Highland Park Senior Apartments (near the gazebo)

BACKGROUND:     Interim Chief William Smith and Richmond Police Department officers will walk through Richmond’s Six Points neighborhood today. During the walk, Members of the RPD will speak with community members about safety concerns they may have and what they would like to see from the Richmond Police Department.

                                Newly promoted Sector 411 Lt. Anthony Jackson said there has been a lot of investment in this portion of the city. He plans to focus on things residents can do to help prevent motor vehicle thefts and theft from motor vehicles.

                                 “We will have face to face interactions with the residents in the neighborhood to alert them of issues we are noticing and remind them to contact us with any concerns they might have,” said Lt. Jackson. “This is a great way for us to connect to the community we serve.”

This event is the latest in a series of walks conducted by the Richmond Police Department in neighborhoods throughout the city.

Additional Suspects Sought in Home Invasion and Armed Robbery

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify additional suspects connected to a home invasion and armed robbery that occurred in the Carver neighborhood last week.
 At approximately 5:38 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27, officers responded to the 700 block of West Marshall Street for the report of a home invasion and armed robbery.  The suspects entered the home and demanded money from the victim at gunpoint.  The suspects fled with cash and an iPhone X.

Detectives are working to locate the seven suspects seen in the video crossing Belvidere Street at the intersection with West Marshall Street.  The suspects are walking westbound.
