Victims Identified, Three Charged in Midlothian Turnpike Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified a victim in last night’s fatal shootings on Midlothian Turnpike and arrested and charged three individuals in connection with the crime.

Detectives identified the victims of last night’s homicides as Sharnez Hill, 30, and her daughter, 3 months.

Detectives have charged Donald Hemmings, 22, Shyheem Martin, 23 and Shamondrick Perry, 19, with conspiracy to commit murder. Additional charges are pending. Their booking photos are attached.

Last night at 6:31 p.m., Richmond Police responded to the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike for a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located two adult females, two teenagers and one child suffering from gunshot wounds, outside near the breezeway. One adult female, Hill, was pronounced at the scene. Four victims were transported to a local hospital where Hill’s daughter succumbed to her injury. The three other female victims have injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

Detectives are still trying to determine if other persons were involved in the shootings and are asking the public for information.

Five People Shot, One deceased 4000 block Midlothian Turnpike

At 6:31 p.m., Richmond Police responded to the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike for a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located two adult females, two teenagers, and one child suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to a local hospital, two with non-life threatening injuries, two victims with life-threatening injuries, and one adult female succumbed to her injuries while at the hospital.

Medical Examiner will determine manner and cause of death.

Victim Identified in Hull Street Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in this morning’s homicide on Hull Street as Mark Adamson, a male in his 50’s.

At approximately 12:08 a.m., officers were called to the 2800 block of Hull Street for a report of a person down. Officers arrived and found an adult male in a structure, Adamson, down and unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives are investigating.

Charges Placed in Afton Avenue Homicide

Richmond Police Department detectives have placed charges for the homicide that occurred this month on Afton Avenue. Detectives charged a juvenile male, 14, with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

On April 8 at approximately 4:46 p.m., officers were called to the 2300 block of Afton Avenue for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found a juvenile male who was suffering an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

Richmond Police Department detectives have identified the victim in Wednesday’s homicide on Idlewood Avenue as Alex Leonard, 23.

At approximately 9:19 p.m., officers were called to the 1300 block of Idlewood Avenue for a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Leonard, inside a structure, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Leonard was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Victim Identified, Arrest Made in East Broad Rock Road Homicide

Richmond Police Department detectives have identified the victim in last night’s homicide on East Broad Rock Road as Melissa Paige, 55.

At approximately 6:26 p.m., officers were called to the 3500 block of East Broad Rock Road for a report of a person down. Officers arrived and found a female, Paige, in a structure, down and unresponsive, suffering from injuries from an assault. She was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult male was placed into custody at the scene.

Detectives have charged the male, Paige’s son, John Chillum, 26, with homicide. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 6:26 p.m., officers were called to the 3500 block of East Broad Rock Road for a report of a person down. Missing Man Sought

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing Richmond man.

Derward Gray was last seen on Tuesday, April 6 at the Davis Market located at 301 W. Grace Street. Gray is required to take medication for serious medical conditions. He is known to frequent the Chamberlayne Avenue corridor.

Gray is approximately 5’ 08” tall and weighs about 185 pounds.

Pedestrian Identified in December’s Fatal Collision on North Robinson Street

The Richmond Police Department’s Crash Team has identified the pedestrian who died in the collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred in December as Margaret Doran, 77.

At approximately 9:47 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2020, Richmond Police were called to the intersection of North Robinson Street and Park Avenue for the report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

Officers arrived and found Doran injured at the scene. She was transported to a local hospital where this week she succumbed to her injury.

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team investigated the collision scene and charged the driver, Sarah Warner, a female in her twenties, with driving under the influence. Her booking photo is attached.

Victim Identified, Charges Placed in Fatal Crash on Warwick Road

The Richmond Police Department’s Crash Team has identified the victim in Monday’s fatal two-vehicle collision on Warwick Road as Ludding Estrada, 41.

At approximately 12:17 a.m., Richmond Police responded to a two-vehicle collision in the 4800 block of Warwick Road. Officers arrived and found an adult female, Estrada, with life-threatening injuries resulting from the crash. She was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The RPD Crash Team responded, collected evidence, took measurements and the investigation continues. The driver of the striking vehicle, Amadeo Guevara, 31, was arrested at the scene and charged with driving while under the influence. His booking photo is attached.

Fatal Crash / Hit and Run with Pedestrian in the 2600 block of Berwyn Street

The Richmond Police Department’s Crash Team is investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred last night on Berwyn Street.

At approximately 9:15 p.m., Richmond Police responded to a person down in the roadway in the 2600 block of Berwyn Street. Officers arrived and found an adult male in his 40’s, down and unresponsive in the roadway. He was pronounced at the scene. Detectives will release the identity of the victim following family notification.

The Crash Team responded, collected evidence, took measurements and are investigating. The striking vehicle left the area after impact with the pedestrian and didn’t return.

Annual Date of Disappearance – Jamal Abdul-Faruq

On the annual date of a person who has been reported to have gone missing, Richmond Police detectives re-share the information and appeal for assistance in solving the disappearance.

In 1990, Jamal Abdul-Faruq, 9 at the time, went missing from near his home in the McGuire Manor neighborhood. He and his brother both went missing but his brother was found deceased a short time later.

Jamal Abdul-Faruq would be 40 years of age and his photo as an adult has been age-progressed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Arrest Made in Wickham Street Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have made an arrest in connection with last week’s homicide on Wickham Street.

Derrick Dabney, 20, of Richmond, has been charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 11:53 p.m., on Tuesday, April 6, officers were called to the 600 block of Wickham Street for the report of random gunfire. Officers arrived and located Ashley Wilbert, a female in her 20’s, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, down and unresponsive in the alley. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two Charged in Byswick Lane Homicide


Richmond Police detectives have charged two suspects in connection with the February homicide on Byswick Lane.

Michael Harris, 58, of Chesterfield and Lamel Smith, 35, of North Chesterfield have both been charged with murder, assault during the commission of a felony, statutory burglary and attempted robbery. Their booking photos are attached.

At approximately 11:42 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, officers responded to the 400 block of Byswick Lane for the report of an assault. When officers arrived, they located Maurice Watson-Bey, a male in his forties, inside a residence suffering from trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Charged in North 26th Street Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have charged a suspect in last month’s homicide on North 26th Street.

Quentin Gray, 31, of Charlottesville, has been charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently in custody in Charlottesville and his booking photo is not yet available.

At approximately 2:36 p.m. on Monday, March 1, officers responded to the 2200 block of North 26th Street for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located Corey Holmes, a male in his 30’s, inside a residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nine Charged in Eight Shooting Investigations

The Richmond Police Department Major Crimes unit has announced charges in eight recent shooting investigations:

·      Laquisha Graves, 21, of Richmond, has been charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle for the incident in the 700 block of Hull Street on March 31.


·       Harvey Williams, 22, of Richmond, has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the shooting in the 1800 block of Hull Street on January 29.

 


·       Curtis Brockington, 41, of Richmond, has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for the shooting in the 2000 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike on March 14

 


·       Joseph Hunt, 41, of Henrico, has been charged with possession of firearm by convicted felon for the shooting in the 1100 block of North 25th Street on March 24. Additional charges are pending.

 


·       Malik Nelson, 22, of Richmond, has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the shooting in the 2200 block of Afton Avenue on March 26.

 


·       James Austin, Jr., 22, of Richmond and Jamara Claiborne, 23, of Henrico, have been charged with attempted murder x2 and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony x2 for the double shooting in the 1600 block of Pollock Street on April 8. They were taken into custody by Virginia State Police in Smyth County.

 

·       Jose Pacheco, 31, of Richmond, has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the shooting in the 2800 block of Hathaway Road on April 11.

 


·       James Wright, 68, of Richmond, has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the shooting in the 2200 block of Chalfont Drive on April 12.

At approximately 3:25 p.m., officers were called to the 3400 block of Stockton Street for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Eaddy, down and unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced at the scene.

Victim Identified in Montvale Avenue Death Investigation and Aggravated Assault

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in this morning’s fatal shooting of a male on Montvale Avenue as Vinshaun Johnson, 18.

This morning at approximately 4:28 a.m., officers were called to the 500 block of Montvale Avenue for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and located Johnson, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, down and unresponsive in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, a juvenile male in his late teens, also suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital with an injury that was not considered life threatening.

Missing Man Sought

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing Richmond man.

Dean Carleton Glass was last seen on Tuesday, March 16 leaving 809 Oliver Hill Way. Glass suffers from a mental health disorder. He has no permanent residence and is known to frequent the Greyhound Bus Station on Arthur Ashe Boulevard.

Glass is approximately 5’ 07” tall and weighs about 210 pounds.
