Pedestrian Identified in Fatal Collision on Maury Street
The Richmond Police
Department Crash Team has identified the pedestrian involved in the fatal
collision on Maury Street as Valerie Smith, 62, of Richmond.
At
approximately 7:40 p.m., Saturday, January 10, officers were called to
the intersection of Maury and East 19th streets for the report of a
pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Officers arrived and found an adult female,
Smith, down and unresponsive in the roadway. She was transported to a local
hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The
RPD Crash team responded to the scene and determined that Smith was walking
northbound on East 19th Street and attempting to cross Maury Street
in the crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Maury
Street. The driver, an adult male, remained at the scene.
At
this time, charges have not yet been placed. This investigation continues.
