Suspect Charged following Officer Involved Shooting

Suspect Charged following Officer Involved Shooting

Richmond Police Department detectives have charged the suspect in the officer-involved shooting that occurred yesterday. Thomas Anderson, 41, of Richmond, has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Additional charges are pending. His booking photo is not yet available.

Last night at approximately 8:55 p.m., officers were called to a gas station in the 200 block of East Belt Boulevard for the report of an armed person. The call was then updated to shots fired. Officers arrived and were advised an adult male fired a shot at the location and shot at a GRTC employee. There were no injuries. Officers were advised the suspect had left the area on foot towards the 300 block of East Belt Boulevard.

Officers located the suspect at GRTC headquarters where he had previously shot at a staff member. The suspect was ordered by officers to drop his firearm. The suspect then fired at officers. Officers returned fire, striking the male. Officers provided medical aid and the suspect was then transported to a local hospital with injuries that were considered life threatening. His injuries are now not considered life threatening.

Two officers fired, and the suspect was struck. Per RPD policy, the two officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.

This investigation continues.
