After further investigation into a falling death in the city Saturday, Richmond Police detectives and the Medical Examiner’s Office have determined the fall was accidental.
At approximately 4 p.m. Saturday, a patrol officer saw Timothy S. May, 44, of the 1000 block of Lavon Drive, possibly drinking in public at 21st Street and Riverside Drive. As the officer approached May to speak with him, May climbed over the stairwell railing of the footbridge and tried to drop down to the other side.
At this point, May lost his grip with one hand and, despite the officer’s efforts to pull him back, May fell approximately 29 feet to the ground below.
He was taken to VCU Medical Center where he later died of his injuries.
