Thanks to good investigative work and tips from the
community, Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of Monday’s
homicide and made an arrest in the case.
At approximately 8:39
a.m. Monday, a passerby spotted the body of a deceased female in a ravine
in the 3700 block of North Hopkins Road.
After releasing descriptions of the victim’s tattoos, individuals contacted
detectives Wednesday afternoon to identify the victim as Samantha Myers, 20, of the 1300 block of Evert Avenue.
After being interviewed by Detectives Ed Aeschlimann and David Burt, one of those individuals
then confessed to killing Myers. That individual—Yvette L. Hairston, 40, of the same address as Myers--was subsequently
charged with murder. A mugshot is not yet available.
Hairston and Myers are stepsisters and the motive for the
crime appears to be an argument between the pair.
Major Crimes detectives
worked tirelessly over the past three days canvassing the neighborhood for
tips, following up on numerous leads and interviewing several individuals. They
would also like to thank the community and members of the media for sharing the
description of the victim that helped lead to her identification.
