Arrest Made in Midlothian Turnpike Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has charged a Chesterfield man in connection with a fatal shooting on Midlothian Turnpike last May.

Monquail Whiters, 23, of the 1800 block of Meadow Farm Drive, North Chesterfield, was arrested without incident by Chesterfield Police officers last Thursday, November 19. Whiters has been charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder in the fatalshooting of Sylvester Nichols, 24, of the 6300 block of Glenway Drive.

At approximately 3 p.m. Thursday, May 7, officers were called to the 6500 block of Midlothian Turnpike for the report of a shooting. In a parking lot of the Family Dollar store they found Nichols suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Shortly after the shooting, the RPD released surveillance photos of a person of interest in the case, but it was a tip that led detectives to Whiters.
