Pedestrian Fatality

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a pedestrian fatality that occurred on the city’s south side last weekend.

At approximately 7:40 a.m., Sunday, November 22, RPD officers were called to the intersection of Forest Hill Avenue and Hathaway Road for a report of a woman who had been struck by a vehicle.

Nancy Ferris, 73, of the 6400 block of Glyndon Lane, was transported to a local hospital where she died of her injuries later that afternoon.

Investigators with the RPD Crash Team have determined Ferris was walking in the crosswalk at the entrance to the Granite Hill shopping center when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Montrel Ross, 26, of the 2600 block of Granite Hill Road. Ross was turning into the shopping center when his vehicle struck Ferris.

Ross has been charged with reckless driving. Other charges are expected as investigators consult with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
