The Richmond Police Department has
arrested Donte J. Watts, 24, of the 300 block of Labrook Drive, and
charged him with felony assault on a law enforcement officer, as well as other
charges. His photo is below.
Yesterday at approximately 10:16 p.m., a
call for shooting into an occupied dwelling was reported in the 300 block of
Grey Birch Drive. Third Precinct officers arrived and gathered suspect
information about a male who fired shots at a female and who also fired shots
at a dwelling. There were no injuries. Officers broadcast the suspect
description.
Officers from the Violence Suppression
Team were working nearby and quickly responded to a nearby apartment complex,
located at 6701 Carnation Street. Officers observed a male matching the suspect
description enter a vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and attempted to
detain an individual that matched the suspect description.
Officers stated as they attempted to detain Watts he resisted and brandished a handgun towards an officer. Watts pulled the trigger several times. The gun did not fire.
Officers were then able to control Watts
and arrest him. There were five other occupants in the vehicle. Three were
charged with unrelated offenses.
Watts was also charged with attempted
murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Other charges are
pending, as detectives continue to consult with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s
Office.
