The
Richmond Police Department needs the public’s help to solve the first homicide
of 2019, even though a suspect was recently convicted of murder in connection
to the case.
At
approximately 1:45 p.m. on January 2, 2019, officers responded to the 4500
block of Norborne Road for the report of a person shot. When they arrived,
they quickly located Michael E. Halford’s body lying on the front porch
of his home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A
jury trial was held last week and a guilty verdict was obtained for Tyell J.
Jackson, 32, of the 2900 block of North Parham Road, Henrico. He was sentenced
to 38 years in prison for first-degree murder, robbery, and firearms
violations.
Even
though the conviction brings some closure and justice for the victim’s family,
detectives still need the community’s assistance with additional information
about the murder – particularly about a second suspect.
“The
Ring doorbell camera system was an invaluable & innovative resource in this
investigation,” said Major Crimes Detective M. Godwin. “Not only
did it show investigators how this violent crime was committed, it also
displayed how many individuals were involved.”
Anyone
with information about this homicide is asked to call Detective Godwin at
(804) 646-5533 or contact Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000 or at www.7801000.com.
