Suspect Charged in Shooting Incidents at Hospital
Richmond Police detectives have charged the suspect in the shooting incidents that occurred yesterday in Chippenham Hospital.
Rasheed Pope, Jr., 27, of Henrico, has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is not yet available.
Yesterday at approximately 4:11 a.m., Richmond officers, at Chippenham Hospital for an unrelated call, were notified by dispatch that a shooting had occurred at the Tucker’s Pavilion section of Chippenham Hospital. Officers entered the area and were alerted by witnesses to the presence of the shooting suspect, Pope, Jr. Officers took him into custody without incident.
During an intake procedure, Pope Jr. brandished a firearm and fired several shots, injuring an adult male in a hallway and a Chesterfield Police officer who was also in the hospital area for an unrelated duty. The officer fired his service weapon to stop the threat. The offender was not injured. The male suffered an injury that was considered life threatening. The officer was treated and released.
The investigation continues.
