Driver and Vehicle Sought in Fatal Collision on West Main Street

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team is asking the public to help identify the driver and vehicle involved in the fatal collision involving a pedestrian earlier this month on West Main Street.

At approximately 10:50 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, officers were called to the 2600 block of West Main Street for the report of a collision. Officers arrived and found an adult female, Ruthanne Berry, 52, of Richmond, down and unresponsive. She was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were considered to be life threatening. Berry succumbed to her injuries the following day.

The RPD Crash Team responded to the scene and determined Berry was walking southbound on North Robinson Street and attempted to cross West Main Street in the crosswalk when she was struck by dark-colored sedan. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and continued to drive westbound on West Main Street.

Investigators have determined the vehicle left a parking lot, located at 1911 West Main Street, at 10:46 p.m., four minutes before the vehicle struck Berry.

The investigation continues.

Victim Identified in Southlawn Avenue Homicide Investigation

 

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the homicide that occurred on Southlawn Avenue as Clayton Wyatt, 39, of Richmond.

 

Last night at approximately 11:54 p.m., officers were called to the 1700 block of Southlawn Avenue for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Wyatt, down on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

 

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Grace Period Ending for Newest Safety Cameras

Grace Period Ending for Newest Safety Cameras

The Richmond Police Department reminds motorists that the grace period for speeding violations at the newest Safety Camera locations ends today, Wednesday, February 26. Violations at these locations on or after February 27 will result in a citation.

The newest locations of the cameras at Richmond High School for the Arts (4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike) and Thomas Jefferson High School (1400 block of Malvern Avenue) have been capturing speeding violations in front of the schools during student arrival and dismissal times, resulting in warnings to the registered owners of the vehicles during the grace period.

The two pilot locations at Linwood Holton Elementary and Patrick Henry School of Science and Arts have been in operation since March of last year and are continuing to issue violations. The 11 first expansion locations have been in operation since October of last year and are also continuing to issue violations.

The RPD, in conjunction with the city’s Vision Zero Task Force, under the umbrella of the Richmond Department of Public Works (DPW), and with the support of the Safe and Healthy Streets Commission, the Richmond City Council, and Mayor Danny Avula, have deployed safety cameras at Richmond schools at 13 total locations.

Missing Person Sought

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a Richmond woman who has been reported missing by her family. 

Angela Spagnoulo, 58, was last seen on Monday, February 17 at approximately 8:25 a.m., in the 800 block of Ordway Avenue. She was last seen wearing a white nightgown, tan jacket, and socks. Spagnoulo suffers from mental health issues and requires medication.

 Spagnoulo has gray hair and gray eyes. Her photo is attached.

Pedestrian Identified in Fatal Collision on Hull Street Road

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team has identified the pedestrian involved in the fatal collision on Hull Street Road on Friday as Charles Hunt, 66, of Richmond.

At approximately 6:37 p.m., on Friday, February 21, officers were called to the 3800 block of Hull Street Road for the report of an SUV that struck a pedestrian. Officers arrived and found the male pedestrian, Hunt, down and unresponsive in the right westbound travel lane of Hull Street Road. Hunt was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.

The RPD Crash Team responded to the scene to investigate and have determined that Hunt was attempting to make a mid-block crossing from the north side of the street to the south side when he was struck. The driver was operating the vehicle westbound in the left lane when the vehicle struck Hunt. The driver remained on the scene. At this time, no charges have been filed. The investigation continues.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., Saturday, February 15, officers were called to the 1300 block of Jennie Scher Road for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found an adult female, identified as Jaelyn Barham-Wooden, 20, of Dinwiddie, inside an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Missing Woman, Last Seen on Bridge, Sought

 

The Richmond Police Department is asking the public for information about a local woman who has been reported missing.

 

On Saturday, February 8, at approximately 8:18 p.m., RPD units responded to the Lee Bridge for the report of a suspicious situation. The caller stated that a black female wearing a black tracksuit, knit hat, and glasses was standing near the railing of the bridge.

 

During the initial investigation by the Richmond Police Department, the vehicle that was parked on the bridge was found to be registered to Mareesa Jones, 59, of Henrico. Jones is described as being approximately 5’9” tall and weighing about 200 pounds. Her photo is attached.

 

Since the report of the incident The Richmond Police Department, The Richmond Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team, and the Metro Aviation Unit have utilized resources to attempt to locate Jones which included searching the James River and surrounding areas.

 

Friends of Jones are concerned for her safety. Detectives will continue to investigate but urge concerned individuals not to search in and around the James River, which is at flood stage with dangerous debris.
