Witnesses Sought in Powhite Incident

Richmond Police detectives are looking for witnesses regarding an incident this week in which a man was struck by a vehicle on the Powhite Parkway.

At approximately 10 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to the emergency lane on the northbound side of the James River Bridge on the Powhite Parkway for a report of a man stuck by a vehicle. The 24-year-old woman who was driving told officers she and her boyfriend were arguing when he struck her several times and she stopped the vehicle half way across the bridge in the emergency lane.

That’s when the man got out of the car, she said. When she attempted to drive away, she told investigators, the 26-year-old man jumped in front of her vehicle and was struck. He was taken to the hospital where he is still in critical condition.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the vehicle—a 1991, maroon two-door Oldsmobile Delta 88—on the side of the road to call Detective Mark Allen at (804) 646-0280.

Citizens can also call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both methods are anonymous.
