Chief Tarasovic Statement on Shooting
A five-year-old boy was shot this evening in the Whitcomb Court housing community.
At approximately 6:47 p.m., the Richmond Police Department was called to the 2300 block of Ambrose Street for the report of shots fired. Officers arrived and found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to VCU Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life threatening.
Officers, detectives and Command Staff responded to the scene. Detectives have made the initial determination that a dispute resulted in shots being fired. The boy, playing nearby, was struck.
“This is a deplorable situation,” Chief Ray J. Tarasovic said at the scene. “I call on all those in the community with any knowledge of the identity of these reprehensible suspects to come forward immediately with information. It is a disgraceful situation when a small boy suffers a grievous injury because detestable individuals use guns within our communities.”
Detectives ask anyone with information about this crime to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000 or text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both methods are anonymous.
