Investigators with the Richmond Police Department’s Traffic
Unit say charges are pending in a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of
a young child.
Queen Maultsby, 2, of the 4000 block of Midlothian
Turnpike, died late last night from injuries she received in the crash. Her
mother, Britney Maultsby, 22, of the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike,
was driving the vehicle in which her daughter was riding.
The RPD Crash Team has determined that the crash, which
occurred at 4:48 p.m., Tuesday, May 10, at the intersection of 18th
and Coalter Streets, was triggered when Maultsby’s vehicle entered the
intersection and collided with another vehicle. Maultsby’s vehicle was
travelling west on Coalter Street at the time. The other vehicle was travelling
north on 18th Street.
Four people in Maultsby’s vehicle and one person in the
other vehicle were taken to the hospital to be evaluated. Only the driver of
the other vehicle remains hospitalized for evaluation.
The investigation is still on-going and charges are pending
further consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
