Victim Identified in Midlothian Village Homicide

May 9, 2016

One victim in a double shooting that occurred this morning at Midlothian Village on Richmond’s south side has died.

At approximately 11:13 a.m., officers were called to the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike for a report of a double shooting. They arrived to find two adult males outside of the apartment complex each suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Both victims, one of whom had life-threatening injuries, were transported to a local hospital. Rashawn A. Brathwaite, 23, of the 2300 block of Whitcomb Street, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital this afternoon. The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

“We’re looking to the community for help in this case,” said Major Crimes Captain James Laino. “Our hope is that someone in the Midlothian Village apartment complex saw something – a suspect or vehicle – that could lead to an arrest.”

The second victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released. Detectives are working all available leads, and the case remains under investigation.
