Investigation Determines No Abduction
Following a report of a possible abduction of a child earlier this week, Richmond Police detectives, following investigation, have determined no abduction took place.
On Tuesday, RPD was notified about a possible abduction that had occurred the day earlier. It was reported an ice cream vendor van, operating in an East End neighborhood, was involved in an abduction of a juvenile male. A passerby reported screams from the child, the van stopping, and the child running from the vehicle. The passerby stopped to question the child and the initial belief was the child was placed in the van by the vendor.
Richmond Police detectives investigated and it has been determined the child was sitting on the exterior rear cargo shelf of the van while others were purchasing items and, when the van departed, the child screamed and struck the rear door in an attempt to alert the driver.
RPD thanks all who provided information in this investigation.
