Richmond Police Chief Gerald M. Smith will join Mayor Levar M. Stoney to kick off tonight’s celebration of National Night Out, today, 4 p.m. at Satellite Restaurant, 4000 Richmond Highway.
Command Staff and agency partners will join Mayor Stoney and Chief Smith to launch National Night Out, the biggest city-wide party of the year.
The annual event brings police and neighbors together in support of crime prevention during an evening full of fun for all ages. A strong partnership between the citizens and law enforcement is a powerful tool in fighting crime.
Numerous National Night Out events will be hosted throughout the Richmond area.
“When people get together at these events they get to know our officers and other neighbors,” said Sergeant Tish Edmonds with the Community Care Unit. “The relationships that form can be a powerful tool in fighting crime because neighbors become motivated to help each other.”
National Night Out is an event designed to forge strong relationships between neighborhoods and police. The annual event also helps police officers and the public work together to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention.
