Arrest made in Shooting of Child

Richmond Police detectives have arrested and charged a man in connection with the shooting of a 23-month-old child on Sunday.

At approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, officers were called to a residence in the 1400 block of Harwood Street and found a female child who had been shot. Her injuries were not life threatening and she has since been treated and released from the hospital.

Today, thanks to tips from the community and good investigative work, officers were able to identify a suspect who surrendered to police this evening.

He has been identified as Dontrell M. Mason, 21, of the 2100 block of Mimosa Street. Mason has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and additional charges are pending. His mugshot is attached.
