A
Richmond man has been charged with two felonies in connection with a shooting
that took place late last month on Harwood Street. Jimmie W. Hammond III, 25, of the 3900 block of Midlothian Turnpike, was arrested in Chesterfield County on July 8. He is charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo will be released once it becomes available.
Around
2:45 p.m. on June 30, two off-duty RPD officers heard shots fired along Harwood
Street and responded. They later relayed that an adult female, who was driving
near the intersection of Harwood Street and Rosecrest Avenue, had been shot and
sideswiped a parked vehicle before stopping in the 1500 block of Harwood
Street. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives
believe robbery was the motive in the shooting.
“Hammond’s
arrests puts us one step closer to clearing this case,” said Sergeant Kim
Mooney with the Major Crimes Unit. “However, we are asking for the
community’s help to locate a second suspect who was seen fleeing from the
shooting scene in a gold-colored sedan.”
The
second suspect is described as a 5’6”-5’7” tall, black male with a chubby
build, short haircut and a thin beard. At the time of the incident, he wore a
gray shirt and jeans. He was seen fleeing the scene in a gold or
champagne-colored Nissan Maxima.
