WHAT:
Richmond Police Department Community Walk
WHEN:
5:30 p.m. TODAY, Dec. 5, 2017
WHERE:
Abner Clay Park, 200 W. Clay St.
BACKGROUND:
Chief Alfred Durham
and Richmond Police Department officers will participate in a walk through
Richmond’s Jackson Ward neighborhood at 5:30 p.m. today. During the walk,
RPD officers will speak with community members about safety concerns they may
have and hear how the Richmond Police Department can better serve their
community.
Recently
promoted Sector 413 Lt. James Roberts has noted an increase in property
crimes in the Jackson Ward neighborhood. He will discuss the crime trends with
residents and will also share information about tips to protect your property
during the holiday season.
“Thefts from motor
vehicles are an on-going problem for us in Jackson Ward. We have recently seen
an uptick in motor vehicle theft as well,” said Lt. Roberts. “During
this walk, we will encourage our partners in the community to lock their car
doors, keep all valuables out of sight, and never leave their keys in an
unattended vehicle. Together we can make great strides to reduce property
crime.”
This event is the
latest in a series of walks conducted by the Richmond Police Department in
neighborhoods throughout the city.
Members of the media
are encouraged to attend.
