Community Walk in the Blackwell Neighborhood

February 6, 2018

WHAT:                    Richmond Police Department Community Walk

WHEN:                    5:30 p.m. Today, Feb. 6, 2018

WHERE:                 1400 block of Decatur Street

BACKGROUND:
Chief Alfred Durham, First Precinct Sector 112 Lt. Anthony Papaleo and other
Richmond Police Department officers will participate in a walkthrough of Richmond’s
Blackwell neighborhood at 5:30 p.m. today. During the walk, RPD officers will speak with
community members about safety concerns they may have and what they would like to see
from the Richmond Police Department.

Sector 112 Lt. Papaleo wants to inform residents of the incidents of theft from motor
vehicles and they can protect themselves from becoming a target of this crime

“Theft from motor vehicles is a two part crime,” said Lt. Papaleo. “First, suspects may force
entry into the car which may cause damage to the vehicle. Afterward, they gain access
inside of the vehicle and take items which are often in plain view. Thieves can accomplish
this in mere seconds. Informed residents can help stop this crime from happening. We can’t
do it alone.”

This event is the latest in a series of walks conducted by the Richmond Police Department
in neighborhoods throughout the city.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend.
