Arrest Made in Fan District Disturbance

November 2, 2018
The Richmond Police Department has arrested Ronald S. Young, 26, of the 1000 block of Ridgecliff Road for a robbery during a disturbance that occurred earlier this week in the Fan District.
Young has been charged with Robbery. Additional charges may be added as the investigation progresses.

“Detectives were able to make this arrest with the help of a citizen who recorded the incident on her cell phone and called 911,” said RPD Chief Alfred Durham. “I want to thank her for her quick action, which summoned officers to the scene within minutes and gave detectives valuable visual evidence of the robbery as it occurred.”

At approximately 2:17 a.m. last Sunday, October 28, RPD officers responded to the 2000 block of West Grace Street for a report of an assault. The driver of a van was attempting to drive through an intersection when he was robbed and assaulted. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is on-going.

In the last six months, RPD officers have responded to complaints of illegal parking and noisy crowds that may be associated with several establishments in the area. They will be paying particular attention to prevent future incidents.

“The residents of this area deserve peace and quiet,” said 3rd Precinct Captain Chris Gleason. “We ask them to remain vigilant and patient as we work with the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority to address the concerns.”
