This weekend, thousands will be heading to the city of
Richmond to participate or watch the 2018 Anthem Richmond Marathon.
The Richmond Police Department wants visitors and
residents to enjoy all that Richmond has to offer and take some extra steps to
keep your items safe.
“Vehicles in parking garages are easy targets
for thieves,” said Sector 413 Lt. James Roberts “Garages provide
criminals concealment from detection, and we frequently see people leave
property behind because they mistakenly believe that garages are a safer option
than street parking.”
Never leave valuable items in the passenger
compartment of your vehicle. If you must leave items inside the car, please
secure them in the trunk. Even small amounts of change or documents may entice
a thief.
Here are some more tips to prevent becoming a victim:
- Limit
the number of items that you bring. If it’s not absolute necessary,
consider leaving it at home
- Always
lock your car door. Leaving your unlocked vehicle for only a moment can
leave you vulnerable.
- Do not leave electronic mobile devices unattended while charging. Consider using a portable charger that you can keep with you at all times.
The Richmond Police Department also asks that if citizens see a suspicious person or activity that they report it by calling (804) 646-5100.
