Suspect Sought in Church Hill Thefts from Motor Vehicles, Credit Card Fraud

September 28, 2020

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the individual in the attached photos and video, who is the suspect in two separate thefts from motor vehicles. He is also suspected of using a credit card to make fraudulent purchases earlier this month.

In the early morning hours of September 10, 2020, the suspect broke into a vehicle in the 300 block of North 25th Street and stole a camera, which was covered with a sweatshirt on the backseat.

In the early morning hours of September 12, 2020, the same suspect broke into a vehicle in the 700 block of North 27th Street and stole a wallet, which contained various items including cash, a driver’s license, a Social Security card, and a credit card. The victim stated their credit card had been used at several businesses in the Richmond metro area. The security video shows the suspect at one of those locations.

Detectives want to remind citizens of RPD’s ongoing “Lock It or Lose It” campaign.  Taking a few small precautions can help secure a vehicle and prevent crimes of opportunity such as motor vehicle theft or theft from motor vehicles:

·       Lock car doors.  Regardless of where it’s parked, lock up and keep valuables out of sight.

·       Never leave keys inside the car. It makes the vehicle an easy target.

·       Don’t leave a running vehicle unattended, even for a few minutes.

Anyone with information about the identity of this suspect is asked to call First Precinct Detective A. Partain at (804) 646-1290 or contact Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000 or at www.7801000.com.  The P3 Tips Crime Stoppers app for smartphones may also be used.  All Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
