Richmond Police Department Recognizes Second Precinct and Southside Community for Crime Reduction in 2021

When:  9:30 a.m., Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 12, 2022

What:  RPD Chief Gerald Smith will present Second Precinct officers and personnel with the Crime Reduction Award flag, recognizing Second Precinct and the Southside community for its efforts in marking a 13% reduction in major crime for the year 2021.

Second precinct had the largest reduction in crime across all other precincts in the city last year. Violent crime was reduced by 6% combined with a 15% reduction in property crimes. Major crime reduction occurred in rape, robbery, and aggravated assaults.

Personnel will gather around the flagpole at Second Precinct and raise the flag with pride for display to the entire community throughout the year.

“Second Precinct Commanders Michael Bender and KeShawn Manns and their officers and detectives have used a focused approach to reduce crime while forging relationships within the Southside community,” said Chief Smith. “Our Second Precinct leadership is diligent to monitor trends and work with community partners to generate solutions together.”
