The Richmond Police Department has identified the man who drowned in the James River yesterday as John R. Boynes, 89, of the 2700 block of Lauradale Lane.
At approximately 6:26 p.m., a male was reported down and unresponsive in the James River near the 500 block of Tredegar Street. The Richmond Police Department and the Richmond Fire Department responded. The Richmond Fire Department’s River Rescue team brought Boynes to shore and attempted to resuscitate him. Boynes was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
No foul play is suspected.
