The Richmond Police Department is gearing up
to celebrate National Night Out tomorrow, the biggest city-wide party of
the year, and all city residents are invited to participate.
The annual event, to be held Tuesday, Aug.
1, 2017, brings police and neighbors together in support of crime
prevention during an evening full of fun for all ages. A strong partnership
between the citizens and law enforcement is a powerful tool in fighting crime
which begins with building a sense of community.

“When neighbors get together at these block
parties they get to know one another,” said Sgt. Carol Adams with the
Community Care Unit. “The relationships that form can be a powerful weapon
in fighting crime because they become motived to help each other by keeping an
eye on each other and their properties.”
National Night Out is a night designed to
forge strong relationships between neighborhoods and police. The annual event
also helps police officers and citizens work together to heighten awareness of
crime and drug prevention.
