The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in Saturday afternoon’s homicide in the Broad Rock
neighborhood as Johnny R. “Mr.
Johnny” Battle, 80, of the 3100 block of Decatur Street.
Around 3:38 p.m. Saturday, April 28, several calls were received regarding a male who was assaulting multiple people near the intersection of Hull Street and East 32nd Street. Initial calls stated a 62-year-old man was assaulted in the 00 block of 32nd Street. A few minutes later, additional calls were received that the same suspect was assaulting Battle in the 3100 block of Decatur Street.
When Richmond Police units arrived in the area, they encountered the two victims and the male suspect.
Michael Kevin McReynolds, 43, of the 9800 block of Coalboro Road, Chesterfield, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated malicious wounding. Additional charges are pending. His booking photo is attached.
Upon evaluation from Richmond medical personnel, the 62-year-old man suffered non-life threatening injuries and did not seek medical attention treatment. Battle was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries where two days later he died.
