Memorial Way to be Officially Unveiled

BACKGROUND: Following
a unanimous decision by the Richmond City Council last year, the street in
front of the relocated Police Memorial statue in Byrd Park, Trafford Road, has
been re-named “Police Memorial Way”. Mayor Levar M. Stoney, CAO Selina
Cuffee-Glenn, Interim Chief William Smith and the Richmond Police Department
will officially unveil the new name of the street at a brief ceremony on
Tuesday afternoon. The event was rained out last year and has been rescheduled
to coincide with this year’s Police Memorial Week.
Family members of
fallen officers, other dignitaries and members of the public will be present at
the event.
The public and
members of the media are welcomed to attend.
This unveiling is
part of the Department’s week of events commemorating National Police Week.
Events include this morning’s Bike for the Blue, a memorial bicycle ride to
Washington D.C. and the annual Police Memorial Ceremony, being held at 10 a.m.,
Thursday May 16 at the Richmond Police Department Training Academy, 1202 W.
Graham Road.
