Suspect Identified in Dinwiddie Avenue Hostage Incident

The Richmond Police Department has identified the suspect who held an individual hostage on Monday.

Clarence Gregory, 66, of the 200 block of East 17th Street has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 11:29 a.m., officers received a call for an armed person in the 2100 block of Dinwiddie Avenue. At around 11:52 a.m., officers received an additional call for a person shot at the same location. When police arrived they located Clarence Gregory inside a residence holding another male hostage.

After an attempt to negotiate with Gregory, the SWAT team made entry at approximately 12:42 p.m. Gregory was taken into custody. They also provided medical attention to the victim prior to being transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
