Pedestrian Identified in Broad Rock Train Fatality

The Richmond Police Department has identified the pedestrian who was struck by a train Saturday afternoon in the city’s south side as
Michael S. Branch Sr., 53, of the 2200 block of Chalfont Drive.

At approximately 12:45 p.m. yesterday, officers responded to the 1800 block of Broad Rock Boulevard for the report of a person struck by a train. When officers arrived, they located Michael Branch Sr. and a scooter. Investigators believe Branch Jr. was attempting to stand the scooter up when he was struck.

Branch Sr. was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. He succumbed to his injuries Saturday evening.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
