Suspect Sought in Patterson Avenue Fraud Case

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the individual in the attached photo, who is suspected of trying to cash a fraudulent check.

On November 21, the male suspect arrived at First Bank, located at 5601 Patterson Avenue, and attempted to deposit a check in the amount of more than $28,000.  The suspect provided paperwork to open a new business account, but differing addresses on the documents made a bank worker suspicious.  The check was then put on hold.

After further investigation, detectives believe the suspect somehow intercepted the original check through the mail and tried to open a local business in order to obtain the funds.  Detectives also believe he may have used a fake ID. 

The suspect was last seen wearing a light blue shirt with a black leather jacket and a black leather hat.

Victims Identified, Information Sought in St. Paul Street Homicides

Richmond Police detectives have identified the two homicide victims from last night’s shootings in Gilpin Court and are requesting information from the public.

At approximately 10:56 p.m., officers in the area of the 1000 block of St. Paul Street heard gunshots and responded to an alley in the area. The officers located two adult males in the alley who had suffered apparent gunshot wounds. They were down and unresponsive and were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were identified as Antoine J. Dickens, 40, of the 3900 block of Walmsley Boulevard and Marquise A. Dudley, 25, of the 9000 block of Cloisters East in Henrico.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Victim Identified in East Main Street Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of today’s homicide on East Main Street as Kenneth I. Lawson, 37, of the 3300 block of 3^rd Avenue.

At approximately 12:49 a.m., officers responded to the 1800 block of East Main Street for the report of a shooting.  Once on scene, police found Lawson inside a business suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other victims had also been shot.  An adult male and an adult female were both taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Another adult female was driven to the hospital by private vehicle and was treated for a non-life threatening injury.

Suspect Sought in Commercial Burglary on Jefferson Davis Highway

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect (photos attached) in a commercial burglary that occurred back on Thanksgiving Day.

At approximately 4:08 a.m. on Thursday, November 28, a male suspect broke into OMG Pizza, located at 909 Jefferson Davis Highway, by smashing out a window with a brick.

Once inside, the suspect jumped over the counter and filled bags with cigarettes, cigars, cologne, T-shirts, and money from the register.

Victim Identified and Arrest Made in Hull Street Road Hit & Run Fatality

The Richmond Police Department’s Special Operations Division-Traffic Crash Team has identified the victim and made an arrest in the fatal bicycle-vehicle crash that occurred Friday evening in the City’s Southside.

The bicyclist who was struck and killed in the 5500 block of Hull Street Road has been identified as Henry Clay Jefferson, 52, of the 5500 block of Chesterfield Drive, in South Richmond.

Responding officers found Jefferson in the roadway where he was pronounced dead at the scene. The striking vehicle had fled.

The RPD Traffic Crash Team located the vehicle and has identified the driver as Sharico Tashae Booker, 28, of the 2200 block of Joplin Avenue, in the City of Richmond.

Booker has been charged with Felony Hit & Run resulting in Death, and No Operator’s License.

North 29th Street Homicide – Creighton Court

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred last night in Creighton Court.

At approximately 10:15 p.m., on Friday, December 20, RPD officers were called to the 2000 block of North 29^th Street for a report of a person shot. When they arrived they quickly located a black male, Monte Banks, 35, of the 2000 block of North 29^th Street, lying outside on the ground. He had been shot.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:23 p.m.

Bicyclist Struck in a Hit & Run Fatality on Hull Street Road in south Richmond

The Richmond Police Department’s Special Operations Division-Traffic Crash Team is investigating a fatal crash that occurred yesterday evening in the City’s Southside.

On Friday evening, December 20, 2019, at approximately 10:19 p.m., a Silver SUV traveling east in the 5600 block of Hull Street struck a male bicyclist who was crossing Hull Street from the south side of the street to the north side at the intersection of Chesterfield Drive. The driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene, last seen heading east on Hull Street.

The bicyclist succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Man Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash in South Richmond

The Richmond Police Department’s Special Operations Division-Traffic Crash Team is investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred last Friday in the city’s Southside.

Sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. on December 13, a 64-year-old male was hit by a vehicle in the 3900 block of East Broad Rock Road.  He was found lying on the corner of McGuire Drive and East Broad Rock Road.  The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital where he is being treated for severe injuries sustained in the crash. 

“A witness driving by called 911 and stayed on scene, but no one has come forward to say they saw this crash happen,” said Detective G. Drago.  “As of now, we do not have a vehicle description so we need the public’s help to solve this case.”

First Demonstration of the New RPD Records Management System Public Portal

BACKGROUND:     The Richmond Police Department has been working for the past year to implement a new Records Management System – which is designed to enable a more efficient and effective way of capturing crime data and other statistics that track departmental activities and protocols.

                            The public portal feature of the new system will dramatically increase our transparency and accountability by allowing anyone access to a wealth of data about the Department,” said Richmond Police Chief William C. Smith. “While we are still six months away from launching it on-line, we believe the system has reached a point in its development that now is the time to get input from the general public to learn what information they would like to be able to retrieve.”

The RPD will demonstrate a prototype of the public portal showing a more robust way of displaying data for public access.

An open-floor session will be held to solicit feedback.

                          

People who are interested in such data:  community activists, reporters, academic researchers and others are encouraged to attend the workshop.

Arrest Made in Clarkson Road Shooting

The Richmond Police Department has made an arrest in connection to a shooting on Clarkson Road that occurred last week.

David L. Clayton, 26, of the 600 block of Holbein Place, has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.  His booking photo is attached. 

At approximately 10:37 a.m. on Friday, December 13, officers responded to the 1500 block of Clarkson Road for the report of a person shot.  Once on scene, police found an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  He was taken to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury. 

Shortly after the shooting, the suspect vehicle was observed by a Second Precinct officer. The vehicle was stopped in the 400 block of Westover Hills Boulevard and Clayton was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was also injured during the incident and treated at a local hospital.

“Excellent police work led to a quick arrest in this violent crime,” said Major Crimes Lieutenant Rick Edwards.

Missing Man Sought

Mr. Edwards was found safe in New York City.  He walked himself into a hospital and asked for assistance.  He is currently being evaluated.  Mr. Edwards is in contact with his family.

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing man.

Alvin A. Edwards, Jr., 63, was reported missing from Kindred Spirits Assisted Living Facility at 1206 N 28^th Street.  He suffers from several health conditions and has not checked in with his family in over three days, which is unusual. 

Edwards was last seen wearing a black jacket and baseball cap.  He is approximately 5’ 9” and weighs about 200 pounds.  Edwards also usually travels with a black backpack.

Third Suspect Arrested in Fonticello/Carter Jones Park Homicide

The Richmond Police Department, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Regional Task Force, have arrested a third person in connection to the Fonticello/Carter Jones Park homicide in which nine year old Markiya Dickson was fatally wounded and two others were injured.

Jesus Turner, 20, of the 3100 block of South Street, Chesterfield County was arrested yesterday morning by members of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force. His booking photo is attached. He has been charged with the following:

·         Murder,

·         Two counts of Malicious Wounding 

·         Three counts of the Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony

Two other individuals, Jermaine Davis, 21, of the 4500 block of Millenbeck Road and Quinshawn Betts, 18 of the 4500 block of Millenbeck Road, were arrested back in October in connection to the case.

The shootings occurred during the evening of Sunday, May 26 during a festival at Fonticello/Carter Jones Park in the 2700 block of Bainbridge Street. Detectives have determined that Davis, Turner, and Betts were involved in an exchange of gunfire in the park in which Dickson and a juvenile male were wounded. Dickson died at the hospital. Several hours later, a third individual came forward suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

“After six long weeks of a relentless pursuit of Turner, we’d like to thank the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force for capturing the third suspect wanted in this tragic incident.” said Major Crimes Captain James Laino. “Our detectives worked tirelessly on this case and we’d like to thank the F.B.I for offering a reward for those who came forward with information and the community members who provided tips.”

Suspects Sought in Package Thefts

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspects in the attached photos who are wanted for stealing multiple packages from a mailroom last week.

On Wednesday, December 11, three unknown suspects entered a secured mail room at an apartment complex in the 0 block of S. 20^th Street. Security footage shows them rummaging through the room and taking a television and a number of packages.

One suspect was seen wearing a red hat with fur. The two other suspects were wearing black jackets.

Suspect Sought in Commercial Burglary on Westover Hills Boulevard

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect in a commercial burglary that occurred earlier this week.

At approximately 1:41 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, officers responded to a business in the 1200 Westover Hills Boulevard for a burglary alarm that had just gone off.  Once on scene, police found the front door smashed in.

Security video shows one male suspect breaking the glass on the front door and entering the building.  He loaded up a trash bag with cartons of cigarettes and fled the store on foot toward Dunston Avenue. 

The suspect is described as around 5’ 8” – 6’ 0”, 160-180 pounds, and possibly 40-50 years old.  He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black gloves, and a blue skull cap.

Arrest Made in Chestnut Street Homicide

The Richmond Police Department is now investigating a shooting death that occurred in August as a homicide. Detectives have arrested a Richmond man in connection with the case.

Tywania Vassell, 25, of the 2300 block of Afton Avenue has been charged with voluntary manslaughter and shoot in commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 11:54 a.m., on Monday, August 26, officers responded to the 1400 block of Chestnut Street for the report of a shooting.  When police arrived, they found Drequan X. Trice, 18, of the 600 block of S. Harrison Street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two Additional Arrests Made in Chateau Drive Homicide

The Richmond Police Department, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service, has made two additional arrests in connection with a homicide on Chateau Drive in April.

After contact was made by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, Willie Gamble Jr., 19, of the 4300 block of Amberly Road, and Lawrence T. Moseley, 18, of the 5200 block of Whetstone Road turned themselves into law enforcement yesterday.  They have each been charged with murder, abduction, robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.  Their booking photos are attached.

Back in May, two brothers, Timothy A. Ward and Timon A. Ward, were arrested in connection to the same crime.  They have also each been charged with murder, abduction, robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.  Updated booking photos are attached.

RPD detectives determined that on the evening of Tuesday, April 30, these four suspects were involved in a robbery that led to the shooting death of Reginald K. Addo, 40, inside his home in the 2200 block of Chateau Drive.

Community Walk in the Jackson Ward Neighborhood

WHERE:                     500 block of W. Marshall Street.

BACKGROUND:         Chief William Smith, Command Staff and other Richmond Police Department officers will walk at 5:30 p.m. today through the Jackson Ward neighborhood. During the walk, officers will speak with community members about safety concerns they may have and what they would like to see from the Richmond Police Department.

                                    Sector 413 Lt. James Roberts says a common issue in this neighborhood is items being stolen out of vehicles. During this time of year there is also an uptick in package thefts.

                                    “We want to take this opportunity to engage with our Jackson Ward neighbors to share information on holiday safety tips and methods for keeping valuables safe,” said Lt. Roberts.

This event is the latest in a series of walks conducted by the Richmond Police Department in neighborhoods throughout the city.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend.

Traffic Advisory for “Rumors of War” Sculpture Unveiling

Hundreds of people are expected to attend the unveiling of Kehinde Wiley’s “Rumors of War” sculpture at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts on Tuesday afternoon. 

The southbound side of N. Arthur Ashe Boulevard between Ellwood Avenue and Monument Avenue will be closed from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10.

There will also be no parking beginning at 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. on the following streets:

•          Both sides of N. Arthur Ashe Boulevard between Floyd Avenue and Kensington Avenue
•          The southbound side of the 2700 block of Grove Avenue

Suspects Sought in Fan District Hit and Run

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to locate the two suspects in a hit and run that occurred last month.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22, security video shows the suspect vehicle striking a parked vehicle in the 100 block of North Allen Avenue.  The parked vehicle was hit hard enough to push forward and strike the vehicle in front.  The driver and passenger of the suspect vehicle then got out of the car and walked around the area.  A few minutes later, they grabbed the suspect vehicle’s bumper, which had fallen off during the collision, and placed it in the backseat before driving off.

Both parked vehicles sustained extensive damage.

Arrest Made in Midlothian Turnpike Homicide

Richmond Police detectives, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Regional Task Force, have made an arrest in connection with a homicide on Midlothian Turnpike last week.

Deon Thomas, 19, of the 200 block of West Charity Street, was arrested yesterday by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force. He has been charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Additional charges are pending.

At approximately 11:03 p.m. on November 30, officers responded to a business in the 3100 block of Midlothian Turnpike for the report of a person shot. Once on scene, police found Ashraf H. Mahasees, who worked at the store, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arrest Made in Hull Street Shooting

The Richmond Police Department has made an arrest in connection to a shooting on Hull Street that occurred this past Sunday.

Deontrey L. Thomas, 26, of the 6200 block of Tweeter Branch Lane, was apprehended yesterday without incident by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force.  He has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

At approximately 2:01 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, officers responded to a business in the 1800 block of Hull Street for the report of a shooting.  Once on scene, police found an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.  He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Arrest Made in Briel Street Shooting

The Richmond Police Department has made an arrest in connection to a shooting that occurred on Thanksgiving. 

Reginald V. Walker, 32, of the 100 block of Forest Avenue has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 6:26 p.m., on Thursday, November 28, officers were called to the 3500 block of Briel Street for the report of a shooting. Officers responded and found an adult male suffering from a life threatening gunshot wound and Reginald V. Walker suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. During the investigation, detectives determined that Walker fired his weapon and struck the victim.

Suspect Sought in Commercial Robbery on Hull Street

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect in a commercial robbery that occurred on Thanksgiving Day.

At approximately 5:54 p.m. on Thursday, November 28, the male suspect walked up to the counter at the Dollar General located at 2128 Hull Street.  He was holding a Snickers candy bar and gave the clerk $1.  As the clerk popped the drawer open for change, the suspect reached over the counter to grab money from the register, punched the clerk in the face, and fled the store on foot.

The suspect was last seen running west on Hull Street.  Officers later recovered his camouflage hoodie on the corner of Hull Street and Pilkington Street.

Suspect Sought in Hull Street Shooting, Wanted for Attempted Murder

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in a shooting that occurred over the weekend.

At approximately 2:01 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, officers responded to a business in the 1800 block of Hull Street for the report of a shooting.  Once on scene, police found an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.  He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

“The victim is lucky to be alive,” said Major Crimes Lieutenant Rick Edwards. “This was a very deliberate and brutal shooting.”

Detectives have also released photos of the suspect’s vehicle, a gray four-door sedan, possibly a Chrysler.

2019 Dominion Energy Christmas Parade Traffic Advisory

Thousands of people are expected to line Broad Street on Saturday for the 36^th annual Dominion Energy Christmas Parade. Numerous street closures and “No Parking” zones will be in effect.

The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Science Museum of Virginia and proceed east on Broad Street toward Seventh Street. More than 100,000 spectators from across Virginia attend annually, according to parade organizers.

Major city thoroughfares such as Broad Street and Leigh Street will be affected. “No Parking” zones along the route will go into effect beginning at 5 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 until 3 p.m.

The following roads will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. and remain in effect until approximately 2:00 p.m.

·         West Broad Street between Terminal Place and North 8^th Street

·         DMV Drive between West Broad and West Leigh Streets

·         West Leigh Street between Hermitage Road and Myers Street

·         North 7^th Street between East Broad and Jackson Streets

·         East Leigh Street between 4^th and 9^th Streets
