Acting on a Crime Stoppers tip, Richmond Police tonight captured a man wanted for assaulting a police officer earlier this month in Gilpin Court.
Willie Clayborne Coley Jr., 34, of the 8800 block Midway Road, was wanted for striking an officer in the head and face with a gun May 15. The officer was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
Tonight, shortly after 9 p.m., officers arrived at the Chamberlayne Motel on Azalea Avenue. Coley was taken into custody as he attempted to flee a room in the motel through a back window. Although he was armed with a handgun, Coley was taken into custody without incident.
Participating in Coley’s capture was the officer he had assaulted.
The Crime Stoppers tipster will now be eligible for a $1,000 reward from Crime Stoppers and an additional $1,000 reward from the Richmond Police Department.
